Spring Time Blues

I'm not sure if there is a thing more depressing than a spring time snow but man, it did not feel good to see those flakes coming down yesterday morning. We were lucky enough to only receive 1 inch of fluff rather than the 5 inches predicted for north of Fairbanks and with warmer days in the future, it should melt off quickly. It was fairly warm this particular morning, in the high 20sF so this wool coat was more than warm enough. I love how the green military style coat looked over the embroidered blouse, the sharp and structured shoulders of the coat helped balance out all of the flowy-ness of the blouse. I also really enjoy wearing my moto boots - it doesn't seem like I have a pair of pants they don't go with!

Over Spring break Ev and I too the kids bouldering at our local rock climbing gym. It was quite a bit of fun, Ev use to go to a rock gym when he lived in Anchorage quite often and the kids have a rock wall at the their school so I was the total newbie. (I am a chicken when it comes to rock climbing outdoors. I ran the Mt Marathon race several times in Seward and my dad use to come with me for training runs up the mountain. I would do okay on the run from downtown and up the mountain, awesome through the rock slide and then I'd completely freeze up on the tiny bit of rock/cliff work. Like I could not move fore the life of me, I'd just plaster myself to the rocks and freeze. My poor dad, those runs would always take forever! I'm fine with latters and most heights so it's still a little surprising how very terrible I am on a cliff.) I was a little nervous but we ended up having a really wonderful time and while very sore the next morning, really enjoyed the time there.

This was a really simple outfit, just a big cozy cashmere sweater that is just about the nicest sweater I've seen. It's from 2002 and is in immaculate condition - the cashmere in this sweater is so thick and very sturdy. I wish I could find more sweaters like it!

The Cold That Will Never End

I suppose at some point during this never ending, cold March I should update. It has felt like the month that will never end, thanks in part to the cold and thanks to being busy with work. We've seen temps as cold as -40F during the evenings this month and then seen those same temps rise to 35F above zero - at this point, we are wearing all of the coats and snow pants in the morning and end up looking like this during the afternoon. I am sick of it and ready for this snow to start melting! However, seeing as I've complained about the weather ALL MONTH LONG, this shall be the last post doing so. You're welcome. ;)

I wore my Sorrels, snow pants and my puffy coat over this earlier in the day and as mentioned, when temps rose during the afternoon I shed my layers. I don't use this bag quite as often i should and even time I do use it, I end up wondering why not. It's large enough to fit all of my daily essentials (plus more) and I love this shade of purple so...I don't know. I know that do like to default to my black bags so it might just mean I need to make myself reach for it until purple becomes the new default.

Rag and Bone Boots (Christmas gift, ebay)

Not only has it been a cold March, one the rare occasion it warms up we get more snow. WHEN WILL IT END?! I like everyone else in the blogging world am making the obligatory "can't wait for sandal weather" but man, I just want to see greenery again and not more snow! 40F sounds like paradise right now but I suspect spring may be a ways off for us and sandal season even farther - with more snow than average the melting/breakup season is going to be messy this year with mud every where! Boots are here to stay for a bit.

I pulled this shirt back out of a donate bag a little while ago, I go through periods of wearing it a ton and then not touching it for a while. It always stick around however, it's one of those magical unicorn button ups that doesn't gap at the bust and I enjoy it's vaguely western aesthetic.

Short Skirt And A Long Jacket

UO Hat
Jones New York Wool Coat (thrifted)
Cashmere Cardigan (thrifted)
Isabel Marant Entoile Dress (ebay)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)
AEO Bag

This Jones New York is such a bombastic coat. It might not be a desired or fancy label but it can't be beat for the warmth  This thing is sturdy and while it is fitted, it is just loose enough that I can layer quite a bit under it. The little bit longer length is nice as well, extra warmth for the days when I'm a dipstick and can't resist breaking out the short dresses again. I don't usually style this dress aside from throwing a belt on every time because it's really stunning in person and I like the dress to be the focal point of the outfit but I think I might have to breaking about from my black coat obsession.   With one exemption, I've worn a black coat over this dress every time! I can't want for summer and the chance to try out some different footwear with it.
