Saks Silk Dress (I think it's a house brand dress? Not sure rom the label- thrifted)
Rag and Bone "Margot" Boots (ebay)
I liked this outfit a lot at the time but the jacket is not the most flattering when it's left open like this - it's kind of blocky and maybe not in a good way. Next time I'll pair a shorter jacket that's a little more fitted through the waist, I think that will break up the lines and proportions a bit better. However, I love the color of this fuax wrap dress, it's such a pretty turquoise green and it's a really nice, heavy silk dress.
The wind was quite bad this day so I wore a closer fitting dress to avoid any mishaps - I suppose jeans might have worked but after a month straight of pants at work and all winter, it's nice to wear dresses again.

Vince Leather Jacket (ebay)
Isabel Marant Entoile Blouse (ebay)
Rag and Bone "margot" Boots (ebay)
I realize that shorts over tights is either a "you love it or you hate is with a fiery passion" sort of thing but I love it. I love tights with leather shorts, tweed short or best of all, ripped to shreds shorts. I can't help it, I just also love worn out denim shorts. Normal denim is really a "eh" to me but button fly, high rise, light wash short shorts? I love them so much even though that will make people question my taste which is fine because we all have that guilty love for some questionable item.

Sandgrens Clog Boots c/o Sandgrens
Most of this snow has disappeared by now and luckily the forecasted snow showers never arrived. It's so nice to be outside and warm again!
This dress has a lot of great movement to it but so far I've been rather boring in styling it. I've seen a girl in rl wearing this dress over a full maxi skirt and it looked amazing so I think I might have to try some things a little more out of the box. This time I wore clog boots and a rougher looking leather jacket which I love with a pretty dress but I'm excited to start wearing my denim jacket again.

All Saints Leather Jacket (ebay)
L.L.Bean Jean Vest (consignment)
Free People Dress
Rag and Bone Heels (thrifted)
It's so wonderful to have the sunshine and warmth back after what felt like the March that would never end nor warm up. It's also nice not to have to wear five million layers and just toss a coat on as you go out the door. I think this is one of my favorite times of the year, it's just warm enough that it feels great, you can still wear a leather jacket without dying of heat stroke and the tights can hang around a little longer. It's about perfect in fact and while all winter I can't wait for sandal weather, as soon as it starts warming up I'm totally cool with tights. (It must just be that I'm so happy to be warm that sandals aren't that important all of a sudden.)
However, I've completely forgot how to walk on dry pavement. I was totally fine on the ice, no slipping at all and then I must have stumbled every three steps in these shoes. Back onto the ice, no problem. WHAT IS THIS DRY GROUND AND HOW DO I WALK??!

AE Jacket (2013)
Winter Kate Dress (ebay)
Balenciaga Bag (birthday gift, second hand on ebay)
Rag and Bone Shoes (thrifted)
It's fun to have access to the other items in my closet again, I missed most of my maxi dresses and have some shoe options. This jacket is a few years old by now but it's held up wonderfully nd I've gotten quite a lot of use out of it. I know a lot of people thing American Eagle is a teen store but you can't beat their jeans for the price (so many different cuts and rises, they really are not juniors only jeans) and some items, like this jacket, are just the best. I'm not crazy about some of the materials they use in their dresses and tops but their cotton items are great and so far I've had good luck with my embroidered items not falling apart.
This is another uniform for me, a maxi dress with a jacket of sorts. I like that this is a denim jacket that has a leather moto jacket cut and in the black color i's pretty useful for me.

Happy Monday! It's been a busy weekend, the kids have been off visiting family down in the state so Ev and I have had the house to ourselves. It's the first time the kids have been gone longer than an evening and I've missed then so much, the house is too quite! We did get quite a few project done however, it is a lot easier to paint without having to worry about hands on the walls. (Not that it matters, I had that covered. I managed to forget twice that I was painting the walls and put my hands on it....Ugh.) We also redid our flooring, made many trips to Home Depot, Ev had to help rearranged the furniture and pictures a gazillions times (thanks for your patience honey) and in general got a lot of house and yard work done.
This outfit was from a few weeks ago, right before the 10x10. There was still quite a bit of snow, most of which has melted by now. Hurrah! This was just a top, jeans, boots and a leather jacket - pretty much my uniform then. Now that it's warm outside, a whooping 50F today, I'm all about the short dresses but still too wimpy to let go of my tights.

10x10 Capsule Items: Helmut Lang Jacket (consignment) / Free People Dress / Justify Suede Skirt / Sandgrens Clog Boots c/o Sandgrens
Accessories: Old Navy Scarf / Tootled Leather Bag
Speaking of going back to 2012 style, this whole "wearing a dress under a skirt" thing is very 2012! It was a popular thing on style blogs going back to 2008 when people would show all the different ways to remix your closet and this was a favorite trick. (I was looking through a Lucky magazine from 2012 the other day and they did 19 items, included coats and accessories, to make 45 days of outfits. It was really interesting to see how small changes do create a different outfit and to see that 19 items can go a long ways! I do miss those days of style magazines, they were a lot more fun to read.) I like this trick every now and then and I do love how the dress looks as a top but man, it's hard to tuck the skirt in and keep things from looking lumpy. I did wear it all day as this is a daily style diary and not a very fancy blog but I will admit that I wouldn't do it again. Note to self, this trick only works with very slim fitting dresses!
It's also the last day of the 10x10 and part of me is rather relived - I'm excited to get back to the rest of my clothes! It's been a great reminder however that I can go a long ways with a little but I also do not think I could be someone who has a closet of only 20 items. I will say that this challenge gave me new appreciation for this skirt, I feel like there's so many things to pair with it now and I am looking forward to some summer dressing. Our snow is trying to melt off and although the April winds are cold right now, it will soon be time for sandals.

10x10 Capsule Items: Madewell Silk Dress(ebay) / Old Navy Jacket Sandgrens Clog Boots c/o Sandgrens
Accessories: Free People Hat / Coach Leather Bag
This silk dress has a bit of a different vibe with the field jacket and the clog boots than it did with the piles of jewelry, leather jacket and sleeker boots. I will say that I wished I hadn't belted the dress because I don't really care for it here- I've belted it before and liked it but the belt feels like way too much in this outfit and it's not a favorite. I do kinda dig the green coat, I normally wouldn't have thought of pairing a green coat with a purple dress but because of the muted tone of the colors, I think it works. A simpler hat might have been better however, looking at the pictures now it just feels like a little too much and a weird step backwards my 2012 style. Which was...interesting. It was 2012 so piling stuff on was good but it wasn't something that feels really authentic to me for that time or now. I like drama in my outfits but I normally keep my hat simple and I usually wear a denim or leather jacket because those both what's comfortable and what I enjoy wearing. I suppose the lesson for this day for myself was don't try to reinvent the wheel and only pile on the jewels.
