Not Chilling

UO Hat
Fred Meyer Scarf
Kenneth Cole New York Coat (ebay)
All Saints Jacket (ebay)
Free People Dress and Bag (ebay)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)

It warmed up quite a bit for a few days, we got a ton of snow and some slick roads and apparently I  felt like it was time for summer dresses to make an appearance. Logical!

I didn't wear this dress a ton last summer, mostly due to being blah I suppose, but I do really enjoy wearing it during the winter. Being able to layer seems to make quite a difference to me, throw on all of the heavey boots and leather jackets and coats and scarves, oh my! I may complain  about the lack of sandal wearing months up here in the far north but I do enjoy some layering. I really liked how this ended up looking with the leather jacket and the boots, it felt quite me - a goof balance of pretty items like the embroidery on the dress and visually heavier things like the boots.  I also like breaking out the non-opaque tights but seeing as they offer about zero warmth, they are saved for the warmer days such as these.

In Which Pork Makes Faces Behind My Back

Fred Meyer Cap
H&M Jacket
Rick Owens Lilies Top (ebay)
Banana Republic Pants (thrifted)
Jeffrey Campbell Boots (ebay)

If you've read this blog for long, you probably remember Pork, our Lab/German Shepard mix.  Her given name is actually Dakota but some how that morphed into Pork.  She photo bombs me a lot and usually is making faces behind me back or laughing when I fall down.  The kids and I have been reading the Hank the Cowdog series (you have to do the voice when you read) and we've all realized Pork basically thinks she's Head of Ranch Security around here.  Keeping the squirrels at bay since 2014.

Orange You Glad

UO Hat
Muubaa Leather Jacket
Lol silk top (thrifted)
J.Brand Coated Jeans (ebay)
Jeffrey Campbell Boots (ebay)
Balenciaga Bag (birthday gift)

I love orange and yet I never wear it.  (Well, I like a lot of colors so it doesn't make much sense why I gravitate towards black so much.  If I was a Power Ranger, I'd probably be a different color every episode.)

Switch Up

UO Hat
Scarf (handmade)
Helmut Lang Jacket (consignment)
All Saints Dress (ebay)
Jeffrey Campbell Boots (ebay)
Balenciaga Bag (birthday gift, second hand on ebay)

I keep forgetting that I really dislike short shoulder straps on purses.  It's so awkward trying to carry one in your armpit, the straps always fall off my shoulders and I usually end up setting them down and forgetting about them.  So even though I really like this bag, I didn't use it nearly as much as I'd hoped.
Until brilliance dawned and I realized I could switch out the shoulder straps.
Yeah, it only took me 8 months to figure that out.
Now that I've switched the straps and I can wear it as a cross-body I have to stop myself from reaching for it every day, I enjoy it that much!  It's funny how changing just a tiny thing can make such a difference.

In The Dark Of Day

UO Hat
Fred Meyer Scarf
J.Crew Coat (thrifted)
Free People Sweater (ebay)
Joe's Jeans (thrifted)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)
Coach Bag (gift, thrifted)

Wow, it was really dark this particular day and even with some touching up the photos still came out super dark.  Oh well, at least overcast means it's warm outside.
I don't reach for this plaid scarf a ton, mostly because I really like the texture of the big fleece scarf I made of my fuzzy black/blue/gray scarf.  This one isn't scratchy or anything, it's just not quite as soft and it turns out I am a big sucker for a huge, soft scarf.  Nothing like wrapping a blanket around your neck.
Aside from the bright coat, this is a fairly plain outfit - a black sweater, boots and blue jeans.  Nothing too exciting here which is why I threw on the plaid scarf and this bright red coat, red is such a nice, bright and happy color for winter. (So I should probably try to wear it more often, if only temps would stay around zero!)

All Right Now

UO Hat
All Saint Jacket
Marni Cashmere Sweater (consignment)
Target Maxi Dress (thrifted)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)
outfit is a mix of what magazines like to call "high and low" with the Target dress, American Eagle bag and UO hat and then the Rag and Bone boots and Marni sweater on the high end.  The big joke I suppose is that the American Eagle bag was the most expensive item of all, everything else was a really lucky find for $30.  (Ebaaay man, if you wait, it's amazing what you can find for cheap.  But it takes a lot of waiting.)  This target maxi was a thrifting find and while  can't say I'm nuts about Target at all (or maybe it's just that the Wasilla Target is a sleeping pill intensified and every other Target is amaz balls) but I do really like this dress.  It's simple, washable and is a great layering piece.  Nice!

Still talking about those "high low" articles, I always end up laughing when the low item the person in question is wearing is from Zara or Topshop - I'm pretty sure I couldn't afford to shop full price at either of those stores!  I'm a probably not their targeted audience however, I won't buy at Old Navy full price and it was nuts going into stores in Anchorage and realizing that I kept thinking "hmmm, I bet I could find this on ebay for $10 in a few months, rather than the $150 they want now!"

Normally Rag and bone boots are very comfortable for my feet, they seem to work for my foot shape and are really the only brand I look for now.  However, when these came I was a little worried because they hurt so much!  They rubbed the skin off all my toes, even with socks and were just little foot torture chambers.  After a week of wearing, they did end up breaking in and I'm relived they did but after not having to break in any of my R&B boots, I was really nervous.

Moose tracks in the evening light.

Fred Meyer Cap, gloves and scarf
Fake Leather Jacket (thrifted, no label)
Banana Republic Cashmere Sweater (thrifted)
Joe's Jeans (thrifted)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)
Free People Bag (ebay)

This sweater is probably the best sweater that ever sweatered and it's on older, thrifted Banana Republic one. Why is it so great?

It is the most amazing cashmere sweater I've ever felt.

No kidding, it is so thick, amost like an old school merino wool sweater but it's also insanely soft and with the high turtleneck and the longer length, it's comfort city around here. The cashmere however blows my mind, I've never felt cashmere like this, even on far, far more expensive sweaters. It is REALLY thick. And very sturdy feeling. And 100% cashmere. I just don't even understand it and I wish I could find more of these sweaters because it's my favorite thing ever.
