Sun Dazed

AEO Hat and Bag
Free People Lace Dress (ebay)
Rag and Bone Heels (thrifted)

I looked at this dress for so long, maybe 2 years before I finally gave in and bought it - and that was because I found both the black and the beige being sold in a lot and won the starting bid at $19.99. That's about $10 a dress! I bought it a while back and with the temps being so high this past week finally took pictures of it, it's very light and breezy so perfect for 85F. I've also been really happy with this straw hat from AEO, I buy 1 or 2 hats from them a year and have always been really happy with how they hold up, comparable to my Free People hats for sure and since I usually buy them at clearance prices, they also cheaper. Win win in my book!

Missing from here is when I tripped and almost fell right on top of the dog, these shoes are always so trippy for some reason! Poor Dakota, the look on her face.

Bright Light

F21 Hat
Icing Vest (Christmas gift)
Winter Kate Silk Dress (ebay)
Target Bag
American Eagle Sandals (last year's)

I've only worn this dress as a top before, I love the embroidery and the silk is really nice but it feels just a little short for everyday wear. I might as well wear it at least once as it was intended however, I just threw on my denim vest and then these sandals I bought last summer. It's also the return of the Target bag, I put it away during the winter because it is SUCH a summer bag but it's time for it to come out.  It's pretty good quailty for a Target bag and the body is soild enough that when the pleather straps give out I can sew on a leather one instead.

They Lay In Wait...

MichaelMichael Kors Top (consignment)
Winter Kate Skirt (ebay)
Miu Miu Shoes (ebay)
Free People Bag (Christmas gift)

This off the shoulder top works so perfectly with maxis, it's not even funny! I keep meaning to wear it with jeans or shorts but I always defualt to my long skirts. It's hard to beat the comfort factor, maxis are so breezey and easy to wear when it's really hot out and unlike shorts which always seem to stick to thighs when the temps rise. (Or maybe that's just me....) It's also nice not having to worry about bending over, unlike shorter dresses, and light tanks or tops that show some skin keep it from looking too conservative. (This last part is on my mind because some Mormon missionaries camped outside of our drive today, waiting for us to come home. Usually they're nice people but it's also kind of irrating having strangers barge their way into your house and tell you how awful of a person you are and hey, please give us money so we can go tell more people how bad they are. We put up a Private Property sign partly because of the Mormon and J.Witnesses - nice people most of the time but they WON'T LEAVE. But that's not quite as bad as finding those little books on your car when you come out of the grocery store or worst still, GIVING THEM AS TIPS THAT IS SERIOUS LEVELS OF UNCOOLNESS.)

Beach Days

Joie Silk Top (ebay)
Old Navy Shorts and Sandals
Free People Bag (ebay)

Apparently I have competely forgotten how to deal with bright sunlight, so many light arcs! Ugh and now I realize I should have just turned the camera a little and that would have helped a ton. I think the next camera accessory I buy might be a hood, that would be a huge help for taking pictures during the summer and probably during the winter. (All of the sunlight bouncing off the snow, that's a little bit of a challenge!)

This was another beach day outfit, pretty casual. I know I talk smack about Old Navy but after doing a closet clean out this past weekend, I realized that some of my really soild basics are ON and it made me remeber that at the beggining of my blog almost all of my clothes were ON or thrifted. I remeber feeling a bit unhappy when another blogger was talking about how awful Old Navy's clothes were and thinking hey, that's were almost all of my closet comes from, they're awesome! And you know what, ON isn't bad. I only buy a few things from them every year, usually tank tops because they make great tank tops but almost all of my kids' stuff comes from there. (The kid clothes are so cute and my kids are kinda picky about soft shirts and what their jeans look like. I tried to buy my daughter some bell bottom jeans eariler this year and she just looked at me, " MOM, my legs will get wet. Jeans are suppose to be short, how do you tuck these into boots?!" She's only six...) Anyways, to get back on track, while I don't buy my wardrobe at ON now or even most of my stuff, I do really like the few things I have because they've held up and have been really versatile.

Spell Designs Romper
Free People Clogs
Antik Batik x My Little Box Bag (ebay)

I didn't really mean to have a week in-between posts, car troubles and life sort of got in the way! It's been really beautiful this week so we've been at the beach a ton, soaking in all of that sunshine in that the Spring Solstice is over. Now we're on the downhill roll, we go from having almost 24hrs of light in the summer, which is amazing, to only 2 hours of light during the depths of the winter. That part is not so amazing so we really have to make the most of our summers up here. Fairbanks and North Pole are the nicest spots in Alaska for summers, it's quite a bit warmer than along the coastline, even lower in the state, and we have two really great, free to the public beaches, Tanana and then Chena Lakes - both are really lovely although we prefer Chena. It has lots of really shallow spots for kids, nice sand and tons of park which is something the Tanana Beach closer to Fairbanks lacks.

I haven't worn my Spell Designs romper a ton this summer which is something I need to fix, it's beautiful. I k now the restroom is always the first thing people bring up about rompers but really, it's not that much of a problem, buttons aren't that hard! The colors of this romper really work with a lot of things but I went simple with my clogs and then bright with an orange hat and a blue bag. Ha, so much for that all-black things, that must have been the winter talking...

Party Birks!

Denim Jacket (thrifted)
Free People Tee (consignment) and Bag (ebay)
J.Brand Maria High Rise Jeans (ebay)
Silver Birks (ebay)

These are my party birks! I love my air of black birks and last summer started really wanting a pair of the silver birks, they just look SO cool. (I'll have to say, this is if you are a birks person - you either love them or hate them and no judging if you don't. We all have that one thing.) I really, really like how they look with black jeans, a tee and a denim jacket and that's exactly how I styled them this time around. The silver just looks so snazzy to me. :)

I've been trying to step up my hair game a little, since I chopped it all off and went with a pixie cut a few years ago, I've been pretty lazy. It's getting long now and while I like what's it's been doing with the natural wave, sometimes I feel like that's the easy way out. Turns out braids are a just as easy way out but looks like I put some effort in! I just braided two tails and then pinned them up top - takes less than a min.

Sunset Over The Pond

UO Hat
AEO Kimono
Old Navy Dress
Free People Bag (ebay)
Trouve Belt (consignment)
Isabel Marant Sandals (ebay)

Not a lot to say today, it's the Old Navy Maxi again, this time with a kimono and belt rather than the jacket from the other day. I really like pairing brown leather accessories with black dresses or pants. I know it's considered "not a real thing" but I really like the look of the two together, both are neutrals so I don't know why they wouldn't work together! Because the outfit was so dark otherwise I added my bright pink and purple Free People bag to help brighten it up and add some visual interest. This AEO kimono is a navy blue which also is another color you are not suppose to pair with black but I love them together, it makes the outfit have a little depth.  (I love this kimono, it's 100% linen and while the linen is soft, it has a ton of structure and doesn't lose it's shape by the end of the day.)
