Wild Rose

Helmut Lang Jacket (consignment)
J.Crew Silk Maxi (ebay)
DV Dolce Vita Heels
Free People Bag (ebay)

I got this J.Crew silk maxi dress for $12 ( including shipping, wut) and I love it except for one thing - it clings like crazy! I wore it once during the winter and it stuck to my tights so badly that I put it away until summer. For some reason I though it wouldn't cling as much to bare legs but nope! I have a few slips, two short and one long but none of them really work under this dress, I think I'll have to try to find a half slip. (Which for the record, it has been forever and a day since I last wore a half slip, bad memories of 90s church outfits right here!) Aside from the cling factor, it really is a nice dress, the silk is pretty thick and heavy and the straps are wide enough that I can wear a normal bra under it. I love bralettes but sometime they just don't cut the mustard.

I have a lot of shoes (very weak laugh here) but out of all of them, I think these are probably one of my very favorites. They're simple but with the silver colored Conchos on the straps, they're like jewelry for the feet! They seem to strike a good balance between simple without being boring and interesting without taking over an whole outfit. I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of the simple, double strap sandal heels that have been popular since 2012, they always feel like the lazy choice for an outfit. They're simple and work okay with almost everything but they're also very...eh. They seem like they're the new nude, platform heel in that they don't add anything to an outfit but they are really starting to hit an over saturation point for me. What about you guys, any shoes that you just feel really over?

Everything is so green and the first batch of wild flowers are in full bloom.  Wild Alaskan Roses are some of my favorite, they not only smell amazing, you can make pretty great rosehip jam out of them!

Layers In Summer

UO Hat
Free People Cardigan (thrifted) and Sandals (ebay)
Old Navy Tank (last years)
Hue Leggings (consignment)
Ecote Leather Bag

I found this cardigan at the thrift store a little while back and it is everything! I've been looking for a good, lightweight, waterfall summer cardigan for a while now and they've been a little hard to find. I was pretty excited to find this one, it's been a great addition and is a nice bridge piece between the two styles I'm drawn to. The fake leather leggings were also something I'd been keeping an eye out for the past year or so, I love my leather pants but sometimes I want a leather-ish pant that's a low profile on the leg and that would work really well with drape-y layers and tunics on top. These were only $3 after some leftover consignment credit which I feel was a pretty good deal.

Happy Memorial day to all!

Fancy Jacket Strikes Again

French Connection Jacket
Free People Dress and Clogs
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)

This dress is one of the few things I have from Free People that isn't great in quality. It's a cheese cloth like weave and unfortunately the dress itself is too heavy for the material.  The flounce at the bottom is heavy enough that it's torn in a few spots and due to the loose weave of the material, it's really tricky to resew without causing new tears. Ugh,  it's such a beautiful dress that I just wish they'd choosen a different material for it. Other than this, I've only had trouble with a (cheap-ish) pruse that I've had to sew the decorations on multiple times and one necklace that fell apart rather quickly. Every other FP item I've bought has held up really well and I usually love the material used in their dresses - it takes a lot to make them pill! I know people like to say the quality has gone way down on Free People items but sometimes I think that might just be a bit of "everything was better back in the day" rather than a genuine complaint, I've been really happy with my items and customer service has always been great the few times something goes wrong. I've had one order end up lost and during the busiest mailing time of the year, they re-sent my order, no questions, and it arrived in 3 days. 3 days to Alaska is crazy.

The Shop Gal did a post about Alaskan Weredork, you can head over to her blog and read about it here!  Her blog does reviews on different stores within the 50 states, usually smaller businesses, and introduced me to a few new Alaskan ones I didn't know about.  :)

Which Way

UO Hat
Valentino Sunglasses (mother's day gift - consignment)
Denim Jacket (thrifted)
Helmut Lang Dress (ebay)
Free People Bag (ebay)
DV Dolce Vita Heels

I know, I was trying to be good about not wearing my denim jacket allllll the time but they're just really easy to toss on and go, which I think might be the problem!  I do really like it over this HL dress, I wore it with my leather jackets during the winter so it's fun to style it in a summery way now. I like to swing either boho or all-black with my outfits so this dress is a great basic for me, with a denim jacket and a woven bag it looks a little more dark bohemian but with my leather jackets and boots it gets a little more of the gothninja look. (I knoooow, it's just such a cool style...)

Beach Day

Aero Kimono (thrifted)
Slip Tank (thrifted - no label)
Cut offs (thrifted - no label)
House of Harlow Sandals (ebay)
Ecote Bag
Valentino Sunglasses (gift - consignment)

Who's ready for festival season? Apparently me. We went to the beach a little while ago and it was scorching, hot enough that covering up a little with a kimono was important, along with slathering on the sunscreen. (Because isn't skin cancer so sexy? No tanning for me!) All black might not have been the best idea but it's taken me so long to find high rise shorts that didn't have a 3 cms long inseam that I wanted to break out the ones I found at the thrift store. They're old fashion denim, ie no stretch at all, and need a little bit of breaking in but they should be in pretty awesome shape by the end of the summer.

High And Low

Valentino Sunglasses (mother's day gift - consignment)
Isabel Marant Blouse (ebay)
Joe's Jeans (thrifted)
Miu Miu Heels (ebay)
Free People Bag (ebay)

Aside from the hat, every thing in this outfit is second hand. Hats are one of the things I usually won't buy second hand, I just can't get past the possible lice factor - I know a lot of people have the same feelings about buy shoes second hand but I will say that it's super rare that I've ever seen a really gross pair of shoes on the second hand rack. This is probably only typical for my experiences however, I hate to make a sweeping statement that all thrift stores carry only pristine clothing.

I would say at this point my close is probably about 90% second hand with a few items bought from stores like Old Navy and American Eagle. AEO's high rise jeans are pretty great for the price and while I like my J.Brand Maria's, I've had a lot of trouble with the quality of them. I have 3 pairs of Maria's and two pairs I have patched for a total of 23 times. 23 times you guys. That seems a little crazy to me and seeing as I'm on my second pair of high rise jeans from AEO in the past 3 years, I easily say that my AEO pair is a lot better quality than the J.Brand's.

However, in favor of paying for a more expensive item, I will say that this Isabel Marant shirt is one of the most beautiful shirts I own and it's just gotten better with age. It's a loose weave and over time the whole shirt has just softened up and now it's supple and loose and so perfect. I've not had this experience of a shirt getting better with time and it makes me always really excited to wear this one. I haven't worn my Miu Miu heels super often because of the suede on the sides and worrying about mud but man, they are so comfy for such a high heel and they add a lot to an outfit for being such a simple shoe. (No comment about my Free People bag - it's crazy and bling-y and colorful and I love it, it's such a fun purse and I can literally fit the kitchen sink in there, I tried. It has to be a small sink however, none of those industrial ones!)

Awesome Shoes, That's What

Helmut Lang Jacket (consignment)
Old Navy Tank
H&M Pants (consignment)
Free People Bag (ebay)
Rick Owens Shoes (ebay)

This outfit is from a little while ago as you can see from the ice on the pond and all of the dead grass. Green up has come and the ice has melted since then but I liked the outfit enough that I wanted to post it. I've gotten a decent amount of wear out of these fake leather pantss so far, they seem to work best with a tunic style of top and my cropped leather jacket is my usual go-to topper. These are the Rick Owens shoes I scored off ebay for a crazy low price, the wrap is detachable so I can get a few different looks out of these. They're breaking in nicely since these pictures, that toe strap is way more comfortable now, thank goodness!

Late Night

Denim Jacket (thrifted)
H&M Maxi (ebay)
Free People Sandals

You'll have to excuse my face, these pictures were taken at almost 11pm and I looked pretty atrocious  by that point. But I was outside with the camera because we'd spotted our first ever swan in the pond(!) and I really wanted to get a pictures of it. There's a pair of sand hill cranes that stop by every year along with some geese and ducks that spend the summer in the ponds so it's really exciting to potentially have swans. It's a busy little pond with the muskrats and duck families and with the moose, weasels, rabbits, foxes, coyotes and lynx that hang around, it ends up being a lot of fun just to sit on the porch and watch the wildlife that passed usually only a few feet away. (Apparently my fear of going to the woodshed in the dark is not completely unfounded - the land behind is a pass through zone for wolves. Wolves are super scary, I'd really rather deal with a bear.)

Anyways, we were outside and I liked my outfit for the day but had been to busy to take pictures earlier. I asked Ev to snap a few shots which he very sweet did. It's not a super exciting outfit, the denim jacket with a maxi is my usual summer uniform but I love each item so it's fun just to wear them all at once.
