This Old Jacket

French Connection Jacket
Old Navy Tank
Levi Shorts (thrifted)
Ecote Bag
Free People Sandals (ebay)

Uuuugh, I always forget how much this blouse wrinkles by the end of the day. I like it because the higher neckline makes it a cute summer work shirt (under a light cardigan) but it wrinkles so easily that it ends up looking really sloppy. I do love this jacket so much, it was something I spent a long time hunting down and for this being the 3rd summer I've worn it, it's in great shape, only a few beads have fallen off so far. I do wish again I hadn't worn this blouse, the neckline just doesn't quite work with the jacket.

I did finally swap out bags, I'm terrible about putting my stuff into one bag and then carrying it for a few weeks. I know that gets a little monotonous for pictures but hey, at least it means I really like my bags. :)

Loosen Up

Slip Tank (thrifted)
AEO Pants (consignment)
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)
Free People Clogs

These are the harem pants I was talking about last week! I saw them at AEO last spring, didn't buy them then saw them and how amazing they looked on a few people around time and by then, AEO was sold out of them. I'd been keeping an eye out at the thrift store and the consignment shop because our towns seems to have about a year turn around time on clothes before things show up in the thrift store (sort of sad, I know) and a few weeks ago I found them. I looove these pants, they are crazy comfy and while they were tight and slim fitting at first, they really, REALLY loosened up by the time I took photos of them. I know there's always smack talk about harem pants every time they try to make a come back and while I haven't always liked the reincarnations of them, I do really love these pants and it's a nice change from skinny jeans.

Sneak Attack

AEO Hat and High Rise Jeans
Anthropologie Cardigan (consignment) and Bag (birthday gift)
Winter Kate Dress (worn as a top - ebay)
Birks (consignment)

Time to break out the birks guys. :) I'm on my third year of year on these and they're still holding up well. I'm pretty careful about what sandals I buys these days, I did buy some Old Navy sandals last year and even though the sandals are still in good shape after a lot of wear, there's nothing to the sole and they'd kill my feet at the end of the day, something I've never had with birks. Now, it really depends if you like the look of big, chunky sandals but I really prefer how visually heavy footwear looks (and feels) so I'm pretty into them - I might have even bought a pair of silver ones with my tips money from April. (I did and they are AMAZING, zero break in time on those.)

If you've read for a while you've seen my main photo bomber, Dakota, fairly often. She's gotten away from outright photo bombs, eating my place markers and knocking over the tripod to making silly faces.
Sneaky. At least she's not licking herself this time.

Baring Arms

Helmut Lang Jacket (consignment)
F21 Dress
Winter Kate Sandals (ebay)
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)

It's still cold enough for a jacket in the mornings but by midday, it's burned off enough that bare arms can come out. We got a little bit of rain yesterday and with the sun, green up is starting - leaves on trees along the hill are starting to pop out and the ducks are back out on the pond. (The dog is so happy, she missed her ducks. She's really good about not bugging them and didn't go near the two nests last summer but she likes to sun herself on the bank right next to the ducks. There's a pair of sand hill cranes that stop over and Dakota is terrified of those, they chased her across the field and under the porch last year!)

No Game

Winter Kate Jacket (ebay)
Old Tank Tank (thrifted)
H&M Faux Leather Pants (consignment)
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)
Free People Clogs

(fake) Leather pants for life, or at least for another few weeks. We almost broke 70 yesterday and when the sun peeked out, these felt a little too warm. Unlike my leather pants from Rag and Bone, these don't breathe AT ALL so it doesn't take very high temps before they start feeling very swamp-butt ish but they are really easy to clean so they have that over the genuine leather pairs. (I just throw these in the washer on cold and then hang dry and I've had zero problems, alas, I can't do that with the R&B pairs.)

I've never worn this jacket buttoned up, mostly because there are so many little buttons and it takes forever but it's pretty cute this way. I'm looking foward to wearing this with my Free People shorts in a short while.    (I know, my pun game is terrible.)

For The Love Of Elephants

AEO Hat and Bag (consignment)
Helmut Lang Jacket (consignment)
Anthropologie Jumpsuit (ebay)
Free People Clogs

It's a little strange wearing loose pants after wearing skinny jeans for so long - my mind's eye really got use to seeing the line of the leg and now, even though I wear wide leg pants off and on, it's really jarring to wear something like this. I'm slowly getting use to it again however and it's nice to have some different silhouettes again. I personally really liked the silhouette of the late 90's, early 00's wide the light top and really loose, low rise jeans and since I found a pair of harem pants that I really love early this week, I'm excited to try that look again. (Although, maybe not with the ab-bearing tee!)

Preceived Value

AEO Hat and High Rise Jeans

PS Bag (consignment)

One friends runs the AEO store up here and when I was in last replacing my high rise jean (almost 3 years of wear on the last pair which is a pretty good run for jeans that got a lot of wear) and he was talking about how everyone now buys jeans from the Aeropstale that's right across the hallway from them and no one wants to spend $50 for a pair of jeans "because it totally makes sense to spend $15 on a pair that literally falls apart rather than $50 for a pair that goes for a while." I've talked before about how much I do like AEO's jeans and for the $50 price range, they really are the best jeans you can buy. Some style aren't great, I don't love the Sateen because they don't wear well, but for the most part, the jeans last for quite a while and man, if you have a large-ish butt and a slim waist, they are amaaaazing. (I admit that I loathe Aero's jeans but a lot of that is because they seem to be cut very slim through the hips and they fit me SO BADLY.)

It is interesting to hear that in the context of the struggle between slow and fast fashion right now. AEO is not slow fashion but I would say that they are one of the few mid-range-ish retailers that's products are worth the prices charged. I've always had really good luck with many of the pieces I've bought there, especially the jeans and have never had anything just fall apart on me. (again, unlike Aero. I got tempted by a pattern on a pretty shawl they had a few years back and I exchanged that silly shawl three times before I gave up - each time it developed a giant tear in it in-between the store and getting home. I never even got to wear it!) Anyways, I suppose this was just some word vomit - it was interesting to hear from someone actually in charge of a store and very involved with the company itself to talk about the shopping habits of consumers. I know Gap and J.Crew were recently featured in an article about people not wanting to shop mid-retailers and going to either stores like F21 or going to buy-it-for-life stores because there's no perceived value in the clothes the sell any more. I know AEO was never originally included in the mid-retailers, partly because they are still thought of as a "teenager" store but they really are one of the few mid-priced stores that I will buy an item at full price because they are actually worth the price. (It's just hard to beat jeans that fit decently and it has always taken me a long time to wear out my jeans from there.)

*Not paid to talk about this, AEO's a place I've shopped on and off at for years.  I have two denim jacket from them from 2013 that I still wear all of the time and are in amazing shape and they get a ton of wear.  I've always gotten a lot of wear out of my jeans, hats and belts from there as well.  The sweaters are about the only things I don't like but I think I've gotten spoiled on finding cashmere at the thrift store of $10, it's hard to go back after that.)

A Trip In the WayBack

Helmut Lang Coat (ebay)
Free People Blouse (thrifted)
Rag and Bone Leather Pants (ebay)
Sandgrens' Manhattan Clog Boots c/o Sandgrens
Ecote Bag
Scarf (self made)

It's a little strange to look back at these pictures! These are from a week and a half ago and so much has changed since then, almost all of the snow, aside from the dirty gravel piles, has melted off and the ground has dried up. It's gotten warmer as well, we're suppose to hit 60f, yay!

I've been having some trouble with wifi working so I haven't been able to get posts up regularly. Life's also been busy - spring hits and all of a sudden there's a ton of stuff to do. Yard work, spring cleaning, building, car work, school ending, all kinds of things that make the days go by quickly. It also doesn't help that everyone's been sick with the bug that just won't quite, blah.

I suppose I don't have a lot to talk about this outfit, it's a fairly standard one but I do really like this top with my HL jacket - the contrast between the boho-ish top and the structured jacket is something I really like and what I'd like my style to be a mish-mash of.
