They Call It Breakup Season

UO Hat
Scarf (consignment)
Muubaa Leather Jacket (ebay)
Old Navy Dress (older)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)
Coach Bag (consignment)

Oookay, this bag really doesn't go with the outfit at all. I was in a bit of a rush running out the door however and didn't have a chance to switch bags however so...yeah. It is a basic black bag so you'd think it would go with everything but the shine on the leather seems like it doesn't really work with the rest of the texture in the outfit and the vibes just don't match up. Otherwise, I like this outfit, I bought this ON dress last year when it seemed like I just could not find a plain. black. dress but it wears a little weird with a strapless bra and because I hadn't bought any bralettes at the time, I really didn't wear it a ton and then found a few more plain black dress and it went to the back of the closet. But now I have a few bras that do work with it so it's getting a bit more wear, it's plain and simple enough that it really works with almost everything and can take on a few different vibes, depending on how I accessorize.

The Second Time Around

AEO Hat, Tank and Belt
Free People Duster Cardigan (consignment)
J.Brand Maria Jeans (ebay)
Dolce Vita Boots (ebay)
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)

So I remember when duster cardigans were "a big thing." It's been a little while and it seems like those are coming back around (along with everything else) and wooow guys, I like the new duster cardigans so much better than the 90s and 00s versions. Those were usually really thick and straight cut and while that's not the worst, they did have a way of making outfits look really bulky.  The newer versions are usually made of really light-weight material and have a lot of flow which to me personally, makes a world of difference. It's a more dynamic look and works a lot better for my figure. I really like the cut on this cardigan, it works really well belted (I know, how 2011 of me!) but it also looks great open.

Sorry about the state of my boots, I'd just taken the ashes out of the wood stove and emptied them and didn't realize I'd apparently gotten them all over myself.  Good job Katie.

Dark Bohemian In The Spring

Helmut Lang Jacket (consignment)
Free People Shirt and Bag (Christmas gift)
Isabel Marant Skirt (thrifted)
Seychelles Boots

It's warm enough that I've started wearing some of my sleeveless tops lately - I like my sweaters but after all winter I'm feeling a little burnt out on them and with how warm it is, summery stuff is all I want to wear. Darker colored summer clothes in slightly heavier fabrics seem to work better for this transitional period into spring. I've done it but sometimes really light-weight, lighter color summer dresses can look a little off balance when paired with black tights, boots and heavier jackets.

Bog Land

Helmut Lang Coat (ebay)
Joie Blouse (thrifted)
7FAMK Jeans (consignment)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)

Hey guys, happy Monday! (Or something like that) Stuff is melting like crazy around here, despite how it looks in the background here. We were out on the snow machine and the path is almost bare dirt right now, the snow out in the bog is only a few inches of much right now. It's been so warm with temps in the 50s that I felt pretty over dressed with the coat on, it's short sleeve weather now!

Overly Optimistic

UO Hat
Helmut Lang Leather Jacket (ebay) and Skirt (ebay)
Joie Silk Blouse (consignment)
B.Marwosky Bag (consignment, old)
Free People shoes

I might have been a little too optimistic with my shoe choice this day. It had been really warm outside, in the 50sf (Yay!) but the temp dropped a little and my toes froze. It's not quite time for open shoes, no matter what all of those people in flip-flops keep telling me - that or I really wimped out this year.

This is the skirt I bought a little while ago. The print is really beautiful, a sort of water-color water/glacier print and it's the same still as my other asymmetrical skirt with the long tail but this day I chose to tie the tail up and wear it as a short skirt. I like the lines but again, I felt a little chilly so it might have been a better idea to go with the long skirt. I do really love how the lines of the skirt work with the lines of the jacket, I don't think I've worn the jacket with the cowl neck zipped up before. It looks pretty nifty! These Free People shoes I've had for a long time but didn't really wear because I felt like they didn't "fit" with the overall look of my wardrobe at the time. I am glad I didn't sell them because I like how the work with a lot of my HL/All Saints stuff, I just need to wait until it's a little bit warmer to break them back out again.

Blinded By The Light

H&M Cardigan (thrifted)
Slip Dress (thrifted)
Free People Bag (ebay)
Vince Camuto Boots (consignment)

A sort of plain outfit, aside from the bright, colorful bag there's not a lot going on here. Aaaaand now you know why I included the bag, giving away all of my secrets here today.

I do like this outfit, sometimes plain and simple is fun but now I wish I'd worn one of my kimonos, I didn't really use them very much this winter and now they're just hanging in the closet, waiting for summer. Or temps over 40, you know.

I do like having pockets on this cardigan, although I never use them for anything other than stuffing my hands into them for pictures.  It's the same with pocket on dresses and skirt, I love them but never really use them as pockets. What's the point of them if I don't use them?!  I don't know why, I use the pockets in my pants all of them times, or would, if manufacturers would start making real front pockets a thing again. Where else am I suppose to put my keys?!

And now we know why Katie loses her keys...

Always Ebay For The Win

UO Hat
Helmut Lang Jacket (ebay)
H&M Cardigan (thrifted)
Elizabeth and James Silk Dress (ebay)
Rag and Bone "Harrow" Boots (ebay)
Free People Bag

I've gotten a lot of use out of this thrifted H&M cardigan! It's fairly well made and with no pilling so far (!) it's doing really well for being a thrifted fast fashion item. The length is mostly what has made it so versitle for me, for some reason the proportions seem to work with either my cropped jacket or my regular length and in all black outfits, the layering adds a little visual interest and some texture.

I still love this Helmut Lang Coat I bought off ebay at the beginning of winter, it's so warm and is just beautiful - the the funnel neck layer under the wool layer makes for such a cool looking jacket. I also feel really lucky that I found it for such a great deal, the jacket normally retails for around 1k and similar offerings from Vince and Rick Owens are even more expensive! To be honest, I feel like Helmut Lang jackets are better quality than the Vince ones, the wool and leather used are really high quality and the workmanship is just superb - I have 3 jackets that I've found for really good deals and all three are fabulous and get a lot of wear. If I had to commit to one brand for the rest of my life, I'd have to go with Helmut Lang. The clothes are really well made, many are made in the USA and the jersey used in many of his pieces is so soft and durable. I know a lot of curvy women with large hips and busts feel like they can't wear drape-y stuff because of the tent affect over the boobs but maaaaaan, HL stuff looks sick on curvy chicks - it drapes and hugs the body so well. (I'll also have to say All Saints dresses can do a great job at this!) You can also find HL stuff on ebay for SO cheap, I've found a bunch of stuff under $30 and if you really watch, you can find it for less. I'd also say it runs pretty true to size but if you are worried about the no return policy of many ebay sellers, either know you measurements and get measurements off EVERYTHING or if you can, try items on at a department store (I assume most people have better access to this than those of us in AK aside from Anchorage) and look for those items then on ebay.

Snowfall (or Warm Feet)

Scarf (consignment)
Topshop Parka (thrifted)
Joie Silk Blouse (consignment)
Paige Skyline Skinny Jeans (thrifted)
UGG Clog Boots (thrifted)
Free People Bag (ebay)

This was a rather plain work outfit, we'd gotten a bot of snow and the next day temps dropped down so I wore my clog Uggs back and forth from work. (At work I wore my loafers and it was a little cuter without the coat but hey, it's a realistic look.) These are the Paige jeans I thrifted last month, I bought them to replace my other work jeans that gave up the ghost and while they don't look great with the boots, they are super adorable with clogs! It's going to be fun to start wearing shoes other than boots pretty soon, I can't wait for sandal season and bare toes.

Mist In The Hills

Free People Poncho and Dress (ebay)
Helmut Lang Leather Jacket (consignment)
Vince Camuto Boots (consignment)
Ecote Bag

Last week we had a winter storm advisory and recived some snow and this week it's back to 47F and everything is melting off. I'd say yaaaay but we still have at least two more cords of firewood to get in before all of the snow melts and the bog becomes....well, a bog. It is really nice not having to plug the cars in and then let them run for a while in the morning to warm up, the electric bill certainly says thank you!

This was a pretty simple outfit, just a leather jacket, a poncho for a little extra warmth and a maxi dress - same old, same old.
