The End of the 20x21

Free People Hat (gift) / AEO Bag

Helmut Lang Jacket (consigment)
Old Navy Long Sleeve Tee
Rag and Bone Pants (ebay)
Seychelles Boots

IT IS DONE. The last day of the 20x21 challenge and I'm not going to lie, I am REALLY excited to wear some different clothes! As a quick refresher, here's all 21 outfits.

Going into the challenge I felt pretty positive, everything seemed like it went together and the first week was easy - I was so excited about the challenge and it was simple picking out outfits every morning. Just grab something from the 20 items and tada, dressed. But that ease got to me, you can see the outfits where I really phoned it in. (see #15 and #21.) Some days I felt fried and even though I only had 20 items to pick from, I still felt like nothing went together or oh jezz, I wore that outfits yesterday and I ended up with some outfits that felt really forced. (see #8, #12 and #18) I think if I'd thought about my capsule a little more going into it, I wouldn't have had this problem. I really felt like I was wearing the same look over and over again and I wish I'd used my Acne high rise, wide leg jeans - I think they would have made outfits #15 and #21 a lot better with both of those outfits having form fitting tops, loose bottoms would have worked better. I also can't believe I put only two dresses and one skirt into this capsule. WHO IS THIS PERSON?! I really missed my maxi dresses and I feel like I lost a little bit of my style by not including at least one other one in, maybe one of my more boho-ish dresses would have added some much needed color and change to the silhouettes! I also missed my shoes badly. For some crazy reason I only included 3 boots and I wore the Sorrels hardly at all so I really only used two boots. I've learned I need more than two boots in my life, Ev heard me complain many a morning about wanting to wear my other boots!

However, I also had a great time. I felt like I hit my stride by the last week after the slump during the middle and I became more comfortable with just wearing the same thing over and over again. I LOVE my Rick Owens midi dress, it's just so awesome to wear and it was very versatile, most of my favorite outfits were with it! (#14, #19, #20) I also really like wearing my Free People sweater, the asymmetrical hem and longer length make it work with so many things. The purple Rag and Bone jeans could me off guard with how much I enjoyed wearing those, the color was unexpected for me but it worked really well in the capsule. (possibly because everything was black?)  I will also say that this was a great challenge for me because I'm usually sick of taking outfit photos by February, it's cold outside and I have no mojo left. This year I felt like I did way better and hey, I even put more effort into taking pictures!

Overall, I really did enjoy the experience and I'm happy I did it. I don't think I could do a capsule wardrobe because man, I really, REALLY like my shoes. It did show me how much I like having my wardrobe to play around with and it made me really excited to wear thing in my closet rather than looking for something new. Right now I feel like I have some many possibilities, I think I'm going to really slow down in what I add in because I think I'm at a good spot with it.

20x21 Day 20

Forever21 Hat / Jones New York Coat (thrifted) / Pendleton Bag (consignment)
Anthropologie Sweater (thrifted)
Rag and Bone Leather Pants (ebay)
Sandgrens' Manhattan Clog Boots c/o Sandgrens
Okay, this might be another favorite! (and I'm not just saying that because I love this sweater.) I changed up my accessories to get a little bit of a different look from the last time I wore this sweater and pants and I feel like it was really successful. The straight line of the coat really helps with that and the bag and hat add some much need color into the outfit.

If you've been around the blog for a while you might remember big blue here, he's an old Ford and while he doesn't run any more, he does pose very nicely for pictures. :)  Because what is Alaskan d├ęcor without some old cars in the yard? (NOTHING, IT IS NOTHING.)

20x21 Day 19

J.Crew Coat (consignment) / Free People Bag (ebay) and Necklaces

Free People Sweater (ebay)
Rick Owens Dress (thrifted)
Seychelles Boots
This is probably one of my favorites of the whole challenge, I hiked the waist band of the dress up a bit to change the length (and used a belt to hold it in place, it actually worked well enough I didn't need to fiddle with it at all through out the day!) and I like how the different length changed the whole look. It was 45 degrees today and all of the snow was melting - we even got some rain! At this rate, spring should be here in just a few weeks. (Haha, a girl can dream right? That sure would be pleasant, compared to when spring usually arrives, in May.)

In other note, one of my favorite country singers from the 90's is in town giving a concert and uuugh, I want to go so bad! However, it's to benefit the NRA and while we do have guns and depend on hunting to fill our freezer, I'm not a huge fan on how the NRA handles things. (I'm also possibly just grumpy because it feels like the open carry's have gotten out of hand in town - there have been SO MANY people carrying guns around on their hips and it's always these people you know have zero experience with guns and think they are hot shit because they've watched some tactical videos on Youtube and play Medal of Honor. I stopped going into one of the Gamestop locations after a young man carrying a gun pulled it out of the holster to show it off to his friend behind the counter and was being very unsafe about pointing in the direction of people - it made me crazy nervous because accidentals shootings are a very real things and people are so stupid with guns, I know people who've accidently shot themselves or others and aside from my family, I dislike being around other people with guns because people are so lax about gun safety. Annnnyways, a lot of complaining because I feel like people are stupid with guns and there's a part of me that really doesn't want to support a group that is so arrogant and hardline about gun control. One of our town politicians is really pushing for open carry up at UAF because hey, everyone needs a gun, that fosters peace and happiness and joy and nothing bad could ever come from teenagers and guns.)

20x21 Day 17 & 18

Fred Meyer Hat / Free People Bag (ebay) and Coat (thrifted) / Scarf ( made myself)
DKNYC Cardigan(thrifted)
Rick Owens Lillies Dress (thrifted)
Sandgrens' Manhattan Clogs c/o Sandgrens
It's been warming up a lot so I tossed on this short-sleeve coat over my cardigan and dress. I really liked how the layers worked out here but sorry about the half on beanie, I know, it makes me look like a tool.
Two outfits for one today, I didn't have a lot of time on Saturday and only snapped a few quick pics. It didn't help that i didn't really care for that day's outfit, the proportions of the shirt, jacket and skirt just really didn't work together. (It also doesn't help that it was a terrible hair day!)
Fred Meyer Poncho Warp / AEO Hat
Helmut Lang Jacket (consigment) and Skirt (ebay)
Free People top (thrifted)

20x21 Day 16

AEO Hat and Bag / Vintage Wool Cape Coat (thrifted) / Fred Meyer Mittens

Anthropologie Sweater (thrifted)
Anne Klein Cashmere Sweater (thrifted)
Rag and Bone Jeans (thrifted)
Sandgrens Manhattan clog Boots c/o Sandgrens
This sweater is just really fun to wear, it's not my usual style but wearing it always makes me smile. (I dom't know why, I tried to think of what it is that I like so much about this sweater and why I usually don't buy sweaters like this one. It's just meant to be I suppose.) We've been on a little bit of a roller coaster with our weather, temps dropped down to -20f the day I wore this but this week it's suppose to be around 30f. It's been such a mild winter for us that I can't complain at all, we haven't seen -50f once this year - quite a few people have been saying it's the warmest winter they've ever seen up here and most of them have been up since the 50's.   The newspaper confirmed the other day that the winter of 2015/2016 has been one of the warmest for the Artic region so....yay global warming? (I am an awful person, I am sorry.  I just really was not looking forward to winter this year and having a nice one has been amazing.  Sorry Lower 48 for giving you our usual weather.)

20x21 Day 15

Free People Hat / Free People Bag (ebay) / Topshop Coat (thrifted)

Helmut Lang Leather Jacket (ebay)
DVF Tee (consignment)
J.Brand "Maria" Jeans (ebay)
Sorrels (thrifted)
Alrighty, day...something of the 20x21! I'm not wild about this outfit, I think it's the tee that's really throwing me off. Too much pattern or the color or the crew neck? I'm not sure what it is but it's not one of my favorites and I really think it's something about the tee that's not working for me. I think I've also realized that I prefer my tops nice and drapey - it's not as figure flattering as a slim cut shirt but I think the flowy tops work a lot better on me. I also like how they look with skinny jeans, it's that balance of tight and loose. I think I will keep this top and later on wear it with some of my looser pants to hit that balance of tight on top and loose on the bottom.

20x21 Day 14

Free People Hat (gift) / Fred Meyer Scarf / Free People Bag (ebay)

Helmut Lang Coat (ebay)MaxMara Cashmere Sweater (consignment)
Rag and Bone Jeans (thrifted)
Sandgrens' Manhattan Clog Boots c/o Sandgrens
After yesterday's outfit I feel pretty good about this one, I really like how the purple color of these pants has worked in this mini capsule. With so much black and gray, I really needed a little bit of color and these have worked perfectly. I felt like the bag was an odd choice, the reversible sides are either green or orange and I'm not so sure how i feel about those with purple but I was running late and just needed a bag. (And was feel a little tired of the black bags, I do apparently need some colors in my life and closet.)
