Sunset Comes Early This Time Of Year

Urban Outfitters Hat
Fred Meyer Scarf
Old Navy Coat (about 5 years old)
Free People Dress and Bag (ebay)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)

For some reason I wasn't crazy about this dress last time I wore it but I really like it this time, even though I wore it almost the same way, tights, jacket, the whole thing. When I bought it I was thinking mostly about wearing it in the winter because I thought the red would look really striking in the snow and under coats and stuff. Apparently it sunk into my subconscious because I do like it more this way, go figure! (Although I didn't over do it on the black so maybe that's what it is.)

A Frosty Fun Day

Free People Hat and Bag (ebay)
Fred Meyer Scarf
Kenneth Cole New York Coat (ebay)
Winter Kate Kimono (ebay)
Isabel Marant Blouse (ebay)
J.Brand "Maria" Jeans (ebay)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)

Lol, I feel like I've worn this outfit before, even though it's not this exact outfit. It's all stuff that on heavy rotation in my closet, Rag and Bone boots that I never want to take off, this awesome green coat, black high rise jeans and this blouse and kimono are quickly becoming new favorites! (I just really like this kimono layered under this coat, I like the colors together.)

Today is Gunnar's birthday! He's growing up so fast, it does feel like time just flies by. For everyone's birthday I put a cute table cloth on the table, make a huge birthday card (like huge, usually 2 by four feet, it's more of a banner I guess) and arrange presents around the birthday cake so when the birthday person wakes up, they have a fun surprise. It's not really a surprise by this point because I've been doing it for so long but it's something everyone really likes. I use to make the kids' cakes but they're at the age now where they really prefer store birthday cakes so we got Gunnar an awesome Transformer cake - he loved it! He opened presents, went to Nana and Pop pop's for a late breakfast and then bowling, a movie and ended the day at McDonald's. Pretty big fun, he got to choose the day's activities and it was great to see the good time and fun he was having, especially bowling. We'll head back home and put together the Lego Star Wars sets he got - his aunt and uncle gave him a huge police set that we spent all last evening putting together and then together he received a bunch of Stars Wars set so I think we're pretty set on legos for a while. (Did you know Lego came up with a lego proof slipper? Even they acknowledge the joy of stepping on legos in the middle of the night!) He's just getting so grown up, I love this little guy so much and he's just the world to us. Happy Birthday sweetie!

A Blogger's Tale

Urban Outfitters Hat
Scarf (gift)
J.Crew Coat (consignment)
Theory Cashmere Cardigan (consigment)
Winter Kate Dress (ebay)
Anthropologie Bag (gift)
Rag and Bone Boots (ebay)

I thought this cardigan looked a whole lot cuter until I looked at the photos, it looks so awkward now! I promise in real life, it's cuter and not so bulky aound the middle - I think it just got messed up with all of the layering and I was trying to take pictures so fast I didn't get a chance to fix it. (excuses excuses!) I actually have a sort of funny story about that - this road is super cute and with all of the freshly fallen snow, it was just really scenic looking. We pulled over to take pictures really quick and right as we'd taken a few, a truck pulled up behind us and just waited. I got really uncomfortable so we bailed and took off. Well, we were driving back past it this morning and there were two cars pulled over and people taking pictures there - it was actually the same truck and another car and I'm like 90% sure they were taking blog pictures! (Only 90%, last time I asked a girl taking pictures if she was a blogger she got really red and said she was just building her portfolio but seeing as I've used that same excuse, I'm not so sure.) So now....who's the other Fairbanks blogger? I feel pretty sure there must be more out there beside myself, Lousia and High Latitude Style,  I know I've seen others taking pictures with decent cameras and I'm pretty sure it's not for senior photos.

Ok, that story wasn't as funny as it was in my head - I think it was more that I bailed on taking pictures because I got uncomfortable and it was just someone else taking pictures! That must be like karma or something....

And It's Friday Again

Helmut Lang Coat (ebay)
Banana Republic Cashmere Cardigan (thrifted)
Forever21 Dress
American Eagle Belt
Dolce Vita Boots (ebay)
Pendelton Bag (consignment)

Happy Black Friday my fellow Americans! (I dunno, do we say that?) I know I usually complain about Black Friday but I'm trying to be a little more zen this year - I remeber when I worked retail that while I did dislike going to bed at 5 so I could get up at two to head to work, I did always apperciate Black Friday becuase i could count on at least a 14 hour day, that meant a lot of overtime and a nice paycheck which was great for Christmas! And even thought the crowds were always crazy, most people were pretty nice and the time would past quickly. (I don't think Fairbanks really ever gets to the levels the lower 48 does in terms of Black Friday craziness, nott much by way of trampling up here.) I don't think we'll really do any shopping, there's a few stores we'll go to on Small Buiness Saturday but otherwise we've already done a lot of our Christmas shopping. I hope guys all have fun and uh, good luck with parking!

Psst- I also hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving.

Psst again - what a pretty sunrise!

A Red Plaid Bag

Fred Meyer Hat
Old Navy Parka
Anhropologie Sweater (consignment)
Banana Republic Cashmere Sweater (consignment)
James Jeans (thrifted)
UGGs (thrifted)
Pendleton Bag (consignment)

I fell off the blogging wagon for a moment there due to just being busy and sick kids but I'm back on for the time being. I know we always say that times flies by this time of year and wow, how did Christmas and Thanksgiving get here so fast, but I think it's just a combination of everyone being really busy and a lot going on right now. We've been busy with school, snow (it finally snowed a little more, the MatSu valley apparently got over a foot of snow but we were at the tail end and so far have only about six inches that have fallen at our house) and lots of cooking!

This was a pretty chill outfit, lots of running around and volunteering at the school so lots of comfy layers. I thought at first the bright orange necklace might look a little odd with the red plaid bag but I actually really like how they worked together! I usually save this bag and only use it during the winter - I feel like it would look a little non-seasonal appropriate during the hot summers! I do the same with my summer-ish bags like the white crochet one I bought from Target this year, I used it a ton during the summer but it's SUCH a summer bag that it doesn't look appropriate during the winter.

Friday

Urban Outfitters Hat
Fred Meyer Poncho
Helmut Lang Coat (ebay)
Isabel Marant Entoile Blouse (ebay)
Rag and Bone Leather Shorts (ebay)and Boots (ebay)
Free People Bag (ebay)

So instead of my usual black jeans, today I'm wearing black shorts. (Yes in winter but it was 24 degrees today and everyone was out in short sleeves today - heat wave!) This is just a quick post, evidently I couldn't figure out scheduling posts earlier this week and messed up. It's Friday and tomorrow has a winter storm watch so we came into town to do a few fun things and do our grocery shop for Thanksgiving. Happy weekend everyone, have a fun one!
