I Will Survive!

Urban Outfitters Hat
Vivienne Westwood Jacket (consignment)
Old Navy Tee
AEO Jeans
Ecote Boots
Free People Bag (birthday gift - last year)

I love this jacket with all of the heart eye emoji's but I always style it in such a sucky way - black jeans and shirt.  It looks like a bodysuit with a jacket and I'm not so sure that's a great look.  This jacket is really beautiful and I just don't do it justice, next time I'll break out of my comfort zone and try it with *gasp!* some other colors or maybe not black jeans.  Perhaps a dress or skirt?

Guys, I'm such a rebel.

Anyways, ignore the face, this is the second day of me really hoping I wasn't going to be one of the nice people or so that gets struck by lighting every year.  Spoiler - I survived! Time to break into song and dance!

The Thunder Roars

Urban Outfitters Hat
Winter Kate Kimono (ebay)
American Eagle Tank
J.Brand Maria Waxed Jeans (consignment)
Free People Clogs
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)

So the past two nights I've had to race to get photos in, we get home and BOOM!  The thunder roars in the distance, the lighting strikes and there I am, hoping I'm not going to become a crispy critter. (Ack, tripod, I usually appreciate you being so sturdy and durable but you make way too awesome of a lighting rod for comfort.)
I don't have a lot to say about this outfit, it's pretty much my typical comfort zone.  Kimono, fringe bag, hat, high waist black jeans - check, check and check.  Totally ground breaking.  Since I don't have a lot to say about my outfit, I thought maybe I'd talk about my favorite consignment store instead.  You know I buy most of my stuff through thrifting, ebay or consignment and I usually go to the same consignment store in town - Fireweed Consignment off the corner of College and University.  They sell a few of their own boutique items in store but they have such a great collection on their consignment side, they get in a really nice range of items ranging from Target and Forever21 to Dolce and Gabbana and the prices are usually really fair.  I buy a lot of my nicer items there and buy taking in items I don't wear, I can trade store credit and I don't end up having to spend a ton.  I bought these jeans a while back but it was kinda crazy to see the style(Marias) in my size there, I'd been looking at these but hadn't pulled the trigger after the disappointment that was the Sateen version on these.   I sometimes visit the other consignment store on the other side of town but the vibe is a little more mature than I'd prefer right now. (Sweet for bags though!)

*This isn't sponsored, just giving a little love for my favorite place to shop in Fairbanks.

Would You Know My Name

American Eagle Top and Skirt
Free People "Percy" Clogs and Sunglasses
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)

Not a terribly exciting out (not that they ever are) but I've been getting quite a bit of wear out of these clogs, they're just too awesome.   We just finished binge watching the first season of The Strain on dvd and I am so pissed that they replaced Angel with white bread.    How could they do that?!  Angel and Gus were my favorite characters in the books and whatever-the-fudge-her-name-is-tee-hee-computer-hacker is's not cool man, she's just an awful character and I hope she dies horribly in the next season.  Other than that, it's not a bad adaptation of the books, the dialogue is pretty clunky and the opening wasn't as nice as the books and there's a bit of rewriting but hey, the vampires aren't sexy!

Fringe Bags and Hats

Forever21 Hat
American Eagle Belt
Dress c/o H&M (old)
Ecote Bag
Free People Clogs (ebay)

Jezz, I think the last time I wore this dress was back during the winter.  I think I got a little fried putting together outfits by the end there, after months and months of snow I start getting sick of it and all I want to wear is black jeans and coats. (re: lazy)  We still have a little bit left of warm weather though so I'm going milk it and enjoy wearing stuff without coats! We split and stacked firewood last night, we cut a ton of birch during the spring and have been slowly working out way through the pile - we need to have it all split and stacked so it'll have time to dry out for next winter, it usually takes a while to dry out enough to burn.   The past two years we've cut mostly spruce but birch has a higher btu per cord so you get a lot more out of it, the spruce just burns so quickly that I end up having to restock the fire every hour or so and that just sucks during the night.

Storm Watch

Spell Designs Romper
Free People Sunglasses
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)
Old Navy Sandals

The clouds were looking pretty threating when I snapped these pictures but we ended up missing most of the storm but wow, it was blowing like crazy! (Hah, no wind machine needed today.)  It'd been pretty nice up until then, I'd taken the kids out to the carnival out at the Ice Alaska grounds and they spend three hours on the rides.  I went on the Dragon Roller coaster with then and that was it, Izzy and I both almost puked on it!  Last year the same thing almost happened on the Spinning Apples rides so I think I might be done when it comes to rides now.  (Or at least only ride the nice, slow, non spinning rides.)  It was a pretty good time, Golden Days was also going on this past weekend and with the Tanana  State Fair opening next weekend there's been quite a few fun things going on in town.

I do have to complain a little about this romper, I really love this particular print of the Spell Design line but I hate the buttons up the front, it takes so much time to unbutton and re-button, I wish they'd put in a zipper instead.  On days I wear this I just have to not drink anything, all day long and that just works out really well in the heat.

Short Set

American Eagle Kimono
Free People Set
Spell Designs "Dreamweaver" Bag (ebay)
Free People Clogs
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)

I was just talking a few posts back about how I normally wear this top or shorts with different garments rather than together as a set.  The skies cleared up the past few days and we've had some really nice day so hey, time to break the shorts back out and actually war these together!  I really, really love this print, the red and the blue is so striking and it works with a lot of stuff I my closet.  I also really like this kimono, American eagle really stepped up their game this past summer and have had so many cute items, it's hard to not want them all.  (The kimonos, they are so good this year and many are cheaper than the Free People ones I usually like.)  I know AE is usually considered a youth store but their jeans are pretty decent fitting if you have a large booty and again, the kimonos are awesome.  (AE also has also gotten better about trying to be good to their workers and managing the conditions at the factories they work with - they're not perfect but they're trying which is nice.)

Midsummer Gloom

Spell Designs Kimono
Old Navy Tank and Sandals
Aero Shorts
AE Necklaces
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)

After not wearing shorts that might this summer, this past it seems like shorts are all I'm wearing.  I blame that on the past weekend of cold and panicking about fall, I need to wear shorts while the short-wearing is good!  That's the problem with short summers, it always feels like winter's right around the corner and with getting snow in September, it really is coming up. (Boo.)  So all of the kimonos and shorts and sandals it is!
All of this talk about winter makes me realize that I really need to update my gear this year, I've about worn my Bogs into the ground after 6,7 years of wear and my winter coat is starting to fall apart.  Whichever boots I ended up buying will have to be mostly practical but I'm also going to see if I can find some that's "rugged cute." (I suppose that translates to Alaskan cute.)

Flood Control

Free People Sunglasses and Bag (ebay)
Winter Kate Silk Jacket (ebay)
Loft Top (thrifted)
Old Navy Shorts
Birks (consignment)

I took the kids out to the Chena Lake beach for a couple hours this day and later on we went for a walk up along the flood control.  This was built by the Army Core of Engineers after the flood of 1967, the Chena River flooded out Fairbanks after records amount of rain and all of downtown was under several feet of water.  A notable Alaskan, Sam White, reportedly hung a sign outside of his home at the time, "Fairbanks, still a great place to live." during the height of the flood.  He was a guide, trapper, game warden and mapped out a great bit of Alaska back during the beginning of the century, I would completely recommend reading his book, it's really a great read.

I bought these shorts back during an Old Navy sale because I wanted to have a pair of shorts that were easy to slid on after being at the beach. (Because wiggling into denim shorts when wet and sandy just isn't that much fun.)  I like how light weight they are but man, they wrinkle like a beast!

Oh for a Rainy Day

Jacket (thrifted - no label)
American Eagle Tank and Jean
Silk Scarf (thrifted)
Seychelles Boots
Anthropologie Bag (birthday gift)

This past weekend was pretty rainy and chilly, enough that pants were warranted. (And yet, still warm enough for a tank under a jacket, go figure.)  I've been trying to keep my boots in the back of te closet for te summer, all winter all I wanted to dowas wear sandals bu now hat we're in the later part of the summer an the air is starting to get more of a fall feel to it, I keep wanting to wear boots.  No, bad Katie!   It is a little depressing to realize school is right around the corner for the kids, the state fair starts up next weekend and that always marks the start of the countdown.
