Landslide

Ecote Kimono
Dooney and Bourke Leather Bucket Bag (thrifted)

Curfew Sandals

We got a new dryer this weekend!  Well, new to us, our neighbor just bought new appliances for her house and asked if we wanted her old (it's only three years old) dryer.  We spent the winter without one and have been using a drying rack or the clothesline which is great for the environment but not really so wonderful for cold or wet days. Having a dryer again is pretty awesome, we hooked it up yesterday and it runs perfectly.  It was also really good timing, I've had the blankets on the horses for the past weeks because of how cold and rainy it's been and the blankets are completely filthy now. Someone thought rolling in the mud was fun and put a rip in his blanket that I have to patch up now, the little monster.   At least I get to wash the blankets in my own washer, we use to take them to the laundromat and boy, do you get some bad looks when you walk in with horse blankets. In my defense, we did always do a really good job of cleaning out the washers afterwards.

Rainfall

Minnetonka Leather Hat
Leather Coat (thrifted)
Joie Silk Blouse (ebay)
American Eagle Outfitters Skirt
Fossil Leather Bag (thrifted)
Jeffery Campbell Leather Boots

For being billed as a "fold up" hat, this one really didn't do so well after a winter of being packed away. The brim is pretty wonky right right but other than that, it's pretty awesome rainy days, the leather's really durable (aside from not really liking the whole fold up thing) and sheds the water nicely.

I took the kids to see Transformers today, Gunnar loves (and when I say loves I mean LOVES, I'm pretty sure we have almost every Transformer series made by this point) Transformers and has been really wanting to see it.  Movie was okay but whoa - almost three hours is way to long.  But Gunnar really liked it and filled me in one who was who through out the whole thing.  He was kinda unhappy about Megatron coming back and he wants Unicron to be in the next one.  (Because it really looks like they're gunning for another one, at this rate there will be almost as many Transformer movies as X-men movies.)   I just hope the next one isn't as long.

Let It Fall

American Eagle Outfitters Dress
Old Navy Shorts

Yay, rain!

Just in case, that was sarcasm.  I don't mind some sprinkling but these last two weeks of non-stop rain has not been pleasant.  Pony agrees, he hates the rain as well and has been standing around with the most miserable look on his cute little pony face. (Even though he has a nice, warm blanket on and it's really just his head getting wet, he still thinks hes been tormented.) He's so grumpy he's trying to pick fights with Dollar which is stupid because who's gonna win, little fat pony of big tall mustang?

See? Angry pony.  He's been doing this all week, he's just lucky Dollar's a chill dude.

One another note, how great is he looking?  Before the rain Id been working with him almost everyday and he's getting buff!  His gut's a little big from having the past two weeks off though...
Alright, I'll stop, no more ponies for today.

Just Before The Storm

Old Navy Hat
Ecote Kimono (Urban Outfitters)
American Eagle Outfitters Tank and Shorts
Lucky Brand Leather Bag (gift)
Birks (consignment)

An hour after taking these pictures we got hit with another storm, it was quite a bit smaller than had been predicted but it was a bummer to see the rain come back around.  (I want my nice, hot Fairbanks summer, not a Seattle summer.  There's a reason why I live in Fairbanks and not there and it's mostly because I like really hot summers with no snakes.)  The pond is really high right now, it's in the front yard now and if we get another inch of rain it's going to be where we park the cars.  The house is built up so we're not worried about it flooding but that was a big consideration for building the new house.  Our house site is on the other side of the pond and is a good three feet higher.
I really like these shorts but they are just the worst for wearing, they wrinkle if I look at them.   Next time I'll try to starch them when I iron, but if that doesn't work, whatever. My life is pretty informal so it's not like wrinkly shorts are going to kill my social standing.

Go Pony Go

Old Navy Hat
Silk Tee (thrifted)
Seven For All Mankind Jeans (consigment)
Valentina Leather Bag (thrifted)
Birkenstocks (consigment)

Just a comfy outfit.  I did steal Izzy's bag again, (the one she decided was hers) the color is really fun and it's an easy bag even if all I can fit in it is some cash, my driver's license and the phone.  But after years of lugging around 140 pound diaper bags stuffed to the gills with all of the baby paraphernalia you need, it's sort of freeing to travel so light.  (Yup traveling, all the way down the road to the gas station.  Living the high life here people.)

Plain White Tees

Hat (thrifted and altered)
French connection Embellished Jacket (Saks off 5th)
American Eagle Outfitters Tee and Horn Necklace
Areopstale Waxed Jeans
Woven Bag (thrifted)
Rag and Bone Harrow Boots (ebay)

The mosquitoes were really out this evening, they'll little but fast this year and I think they drank about a gallon of blood by the time I was done taking pictures. (A whole two and a half minutes.)  You can tell how much fun I was having by the delighted look on my face.

I think it's time to find a new white tee, this one from American Eagle (last year) hasn't held up so well and is starting to pill isn't hanging very nicely.  I don't really want to spend a ton on a white tee shirt just because they just don't have a really long shelf life but at the same time, I don't like buying super cheap ones that pill after one washing.  Old Navy use to make really killer tee shirts about five years ago, they'd last for just about forever and I don't remember them pilling.  The quality has gone pretty down hill since then, I bought a grey one last year and it started pilling after the first wear.  And don't get me started on the necklines!  They use to do a really nice, shallow v-neck that was perfect, now the v-necks reach down to my navel.  Dudes have it made, their tee shirts are nice and thick, usually cheap and the v-necks are perfect.  I suppose that means I should just buy a men's shirt and be done with it all because I'm also sick of flowers, sparkles and ruffles all over the women's tees.  I don't really want to look like a rainbow threw up on me. (I realize the irony of saying that and then wearing this jacket.)

Blueberry Blossoms

Free People Embroidered Dress (ebay)
Leather Bag (thrifted)
American Eagle Outfitters Sandels

I bought this dress for really cheap off ebay and when it arrived, it ended up being way bigger than it was supposed to have been.  It wasn't even like over-sized in a cute way but sloppy-over-sized looking.  I figured I could just do a few alteration and slim it down a little and before I knew it, I was in over my head.  My sewing skills are pretty pitiful, I can do small thing and with this dress being embroidered in the front, the back and the sides (who does that anymore, don't they know they're suppose to do the cheap route and only embroidered the front?) and the only way I could have done it correctly was to take the entire dress apart.

I went the lazy around and did a bunch of tiny little darts(I know, I deserve the screams you sewers are making right now) buuuuut....it sorta worked.  Everything held up, it looks okay and it's held up in the wash so far.

My lazy person mad sewing skillz aside, I really, really like this dress.  the embroidery is all of the way around and aside from a few spot, is in really good condition. I did get it for cheap and wasn't really expecting that much but it's just so gosh darn pretty that I don't even care that I spent seven hours trying to adjust it. (I'm slow to boot.)   One thing I really like about the white dresses Free People puts out is most of them are really thick cotton with lining which seems to be a rarity with white dresses these days.

Flood Warning

Free People Hat
Urban Outfitters Ecote Kimono
Silk Scarf (thrifted)
Kardashians for Sears Tank top
Seven For All Mankind Jeans (consigment)
Carlos Ankle Boots (Famous Footwear)
Coach Bucket Bag (thrifted)
Coin Necklace (Chinese Shop on ebay)

It's been raining like crazy this past week, just torrential downpours.  The ponds rose over a foot and a half and are almost at the flooding point. (We're lucky through, quite a few people along the rivers are getting flooded out, we got over the monthly amount of rain in just 36 hours.)  the ponies were pretty unhappy about the whole thing, Dollar wouldn't go under the shelter and just stood in the middle of the pasture looking miserable.  Merryleggs was getting so cold I put his blanket on him and when I checked on him at two in the morning, the little monster was acting like he was just freezing to death.  I felt so bad for him I made him a warm mash but when I checked under his blanket, he was perfectly dry and warm! The little mooch, he was just looking for some extra dinner. (He's about the wimpiest pony I've ever met though, most are tough little monsters and can take anything but the slightest bit of physical discomfort and he's crying.  He's just so cute I fall for it every time.)

It's Like Whoa

American Eagle Outfitters Men Tee
Aeropostale Shorts
Woven Hand Bag (thrifted)
American Eagle short Necklace, longer necklace handmade
Birkenstocks (consigment)

Man, I LOVE these shoes.  Not as much as I love ponies but it's pretty close.  I'd wanted to replace my espadrilles that fell apart last summer (after two wearings, I tried to sew them back together and ended up just using them as my garden shoes) but I couldn't find and slip on shoes I was really happy with.  I don't like a lot of the slip on sneakers that are popular right now, those white soles get grubby pretty fast and dirty white shoes drive me about nuts.  I know that Birks are having a moment now and that was part of my consideration when I tried these on but whoa - these transcend "trendiness." I'm gonna wear these forever, they are so comfortable.  I like having slip on for running out at night or in the morning to feed the horses or for gardening or you know, pretty much everything.  These sandals have kinda gone beyond that though, I get home and it's so wonderful to take off the hot, sweaty work boots and put these on.

So yeah, these won't be cool next summer but I don't care, I've converted.
