Shorts Are For Rolling In The Snow

Dollhouse Coat (thrifted)
Columbia Sweater (thrifted)
Old Navy Shorts
Fergie Boots (gift)

While buying a newspaper at the quick-stop this morning I was told by the dud behind me that  I was "over dressed" for the weather.  Compared to him in his sandals with socks, shorts and tank top, I was and I felt like a total Alaskan poser.  25 degrees?  Phhht, that be bathing suit weather!  I was totally over dressed with the sweater, coat, tights and boots.  My legs have very little feeling left in them so they can freeze but my torso is always cold so I pile on the layers.  I'm looking forward to eventually hitting menopause, hot flashes are going to be amazing, assuming I get them in the 50 below zero weather and not during the summer when it's 95 degrees. (Which will probably be my luck.)

New Horizons

Forever 21 Jacket (thrifted)
Diane von Furstenberg Dress (thrifted)
Leather Boots c/o H&M

I've been trying to branch out with the lengths of dresses that I wear and after falling down the rabbit hole of minimalist blogs, I wanted to try ore of a simple look.  This really isn't a minimalist look but I love the idea of simplifying an outfit and one's wardrobe.   I'm a shorty so most minimalist looks won't look that flattering on me (Sigh, no awesome Rick Owens looks for me and these stumpy legs) but I am working towards not being such a fussy dresser.  I look back at a lot of my earlier outfits and there was always so much going on, it was really juvenile looking and not that much fun.    I've been feeling like I'm in a serious rut with all of the snow so looking at and trying new styles is a good way to break out of that.
I like the overall look although I suppose high heeled boots would have been more flattering on the leg line.  At the time I liked the flat boots and it was easy to throw on but I think I might try this again and see if I can make it work better. (Or maybe I'll just steal a model's legs.  That'll totally work.)
This jacket is actually a cropped style but because I have a short torso it ends up being regular length on me.  I know I've been wearing it like crazy this past month but it works really well with any dress length and is big enough I can layer a few cashmere cardigans under it.

Bluer Skies

Old Navy Parka
Zara Sweater (ebay)
American Eagle Outfitters Jeans
Doc Martens (gift)
Leather Bag (thrifted)

I'm a mountain goat in that I'll climb on everything.  Trees, fences, roofs, ladders, pretty much everything but a cliff.  I use to run the Mt. Marathon marathon in Seward and my times were always awful because I'd get stuck on the little cliff part.  I'd get half way up, look down and I'd freeze up.    My dad use to go with me on training runs up it to help me with the cliff and one time we got stuck for close to an hour, I just clung to the cliff and won't move, bawling my eyes out.  It's still something I'm really weak at, there's just something that unnerves me about being on a rock face.

Ahem, me being a chicken aside, here's a typical look.  Parka, boots, jeans, sweater.  And to think that we still have another three months of winter to go!  At least you guys down there with the polar vortex will start losing your snow soon and I'll be starting at all of your pictures trying to figure out what that green stuff is. (I *think* it's called grass.....)

Little Country Road

Herman Kay Wool Coat (thrifted)
Sanctuary Sweater (thrifted)
Old Navy Tee
American Eagle Outfitters Jeans
Madden Girl Leopard Print Boots
Leather Bag (thrifted)

Man, I have had the worst luck with photos lately.  It's like I completely forgot how to shoot in the sunlight after being sun deprived the past few months and everything I knew about taking pictures in the light disappeared into the dark recesses of my mind.   I'm figuring it out again and today was a little better but I realize I'm an idiot for complaining back in December about no sunlight and now that I have it, I'm whining about it.

In other news, it's warm again!  Yay!   At least the ponies are really happy about it, no more blankets for them. They just go out and lay around in the sunshine all day and get up just to move with the light.

Passing Through

Hat and Scarf c/o H&M
Calvin Klein Coat (thrifted)
Joie Silk Blouse (thrifted)
American Eagle Outfitters Jeans
Dooney and Bourke Bucket Bag (thrifted)
Report Boots

I'm just sick of snow.  This was before our last snow and now we've got about 3 and half feet (which really isn't that much) and it can be limiting when it comes to trying to take pictures.  We have broken trails all around our house but I get bored taking pictures in the same spots and many visually "interesting" spots have three feet of snow so it's more difficult to get a variety of photos.  I know, those are loser problems.    To distract you from my complaining, here's some pictures of the squirrel and the cute moose who live on our property. (Or wander through.)
He'd stashed a bunch of pine cones in the wood stack and then we had to move them.  He'd been giving Ev the hairy eyeball and I'm pretty sure he's planning on burning down the woodshed or cutting the break lines on the car.   He's also the one that chased Izzy down the driveway.

Moose ears are cute.

Lazy Days

Banana Republic Coat (thrifted)
Lucky Cardigan (thrifted)
Dress (thrifted)
Leather Bag (thrifted)
Doc Martens (gift)

This is one of the dresses that got tossed in the closet clean out.  I like it and I think it looks decent on me but I just couldn't get it to work.  (That said, I don't really like this outfit.  I thought it looked okay but after looking at the pictures, the proportions are so off.)   It's not a dress I reach for and because I only wanted clothes in my closet that I love and con thrown on, it got the boot.

The sun was especially bright this day and the snow didn't help the matter!  These pictures are pretty bleached out and I'm squinting in all of them so I guess that's what I get for being lazy and taking pictures in the backyard.  Hashtag phoning-it-in-or-some-thing.....

Dawn

Dollhouse Coat (thrifted)
Cashmere Sweater (thrifted)
Old Navy Jeans
Leather Bag (thrifted)
Fergie Boots (gift)

More snow.  I was looking at how much we've gotten this year and man, if it does the quick melt off like it did last year, things are going to be a mess come break up season.

I've been ruthless in cutting my coat collection down, so far I've managed to get it down to a few and have taken a look at what I'd really like to add.  A printed, hooded coat was one of those and this thrifted one has fit that perfectly.  It's a nice medium weight coat and I can still layer it under my bigger puffer coat for the -50 below zero cold.  (In -50 I'll wear long johns, a sweater, a smaller coat and then the puffer if I have a bunch of outside work to be done.  The Bogs boots with wool socks and my old L.L.Bean snow pants keep my legs and feet warm and it's easy to still be mobile.)

Follow You Down

Tommy Coat (thrifted)
L.L.Bean Sweater (thrifted)
Gap Skirt (thrifted)
Leather satchel (Gift)
Doc Martens (gift)

For our Anniversary Ev got me Doc Martens and I got him tickets to see The Young Dubliners at the Blue Loon. Pretty sweet!  We had such a fun time, we don't usually get to go out to do stuff like that but it was fun to spend the evening together and to see such a energetic band. (I love fiddle music and Ev loves that genre so it was a win/win.)  I was pretty proud of how sneaky I was, he didn't even know until he opened his fake present(a book) and saw the tickets taped inside.   I'm like a present ninja.
