Long time, no see.  It's been a pretty busy week and I just haven't had enough energy or time to drive back to town to find wifi somewhere so it's been a lackluster week here on the blog.   Work's busy, no luck so far hunting for caribou or moose, Gunnar just started school and yeah, I think that's about it, aside from working to get the house ready for winter.   (Just to be a gushy-gushy mom for a moment, Gunnar had his first day of school and now it seems like he's all grown up.  He's pretty shy but he's been getting use to his classroom and now he's really enjoying it, I just can't believe he's old enough to go to school!  I took him clothes shopping last week and he's been so cute picking out his outfit each morning, he's such a deliberate little guy that he lays all of his clothes out and thinks about it before he makes a choice.  Pretty darn cute.)

Okay, all of that aside, I'm going to try to climb back on this pony and actually update this week and get back to everyone.  I've been so bad about that and I'm going to try to work on it this week.

Oh and this bag?  I can fit a KID in it.  I know, I tried.  And then they started putting each other in it and dragging each other around before they got the great idea of putting Jack in the bag which he actually thought was fun.  I got up this morning and he was curled up inside of it snoring away.   Kids and dogs, they're crazy.

*sigh*

Fall's here up in Fairbanks and I'm not just saying that to jump on the "OMGFALL!" train but I woke up to another frost, 30 degrees, rain and leaves changing color.  This can only mean one thing: IT'S COMING.

Winter.

Yup and I still have so much to do before we hit the really cold weather.  Hey, at least I have a really cool new hat and you know, I dont think I'm ever going to take it off. (So warning ion advance, you may grow sick of seeing it.)

Also, ALASKA FOR THE WIN!   H&M annocced the winners for their 50 states of Fashion today with the five regional winners being:

Northeast: Francisca from Massachusetts, http://instagram.com/p/cfKODJI6gQ/
Southeast: Ashley from Arkansas, http://instagram.com/p/c4d8pbvA-N/
Southwest:  Michelle from Texas, http://50statesoffashion.com/start?i=7524
West: Alicia from Alaska, http://instagram.com/p/ccJBQONkcw/
Midwest: Priscilla from Kansas, http://instagram.com/p/cU1w6rzJVu/

Look at that, an Alaskan did win !  Congrats Alicia of The Wild Muse for winning the West region! I thought Alaska did a really great showing in the contest, there are some crazy stylish women(and dudes!) up here and I'm just really proud of everyone.  Congratulations to all of the other winners as well, that was some fierce competition!   As soon as I learn, I'll be sure to announce the grand prize winner.

Heh as for the title, That's a well known Alaska brand, Alaska Girls Kick Ass.  I'm pretty sure almost every AK girl owns one of those tees or sweatshirts.

There's A Bad Moon On The Rise

Lace Dress c/o H&M
F21 Jacket (thrifted)
Dooney and Burke Bag (thrifted)
Jeffery Campbell Heels (second hand on ebay)
American Eagle Headband

I received a gift card from the kind people behind H&M's 50 States of Fashion, I've been saving my clothing money this past month for the kid's back to school shopping so it was a fun chance to go on a shopping spree. (Something I really don't get to do very often.)  I tried to apply my same method of shopping to my gift card and rather than buy a lot of little things, I choose to get a fewer big ticket items.  This dress is $69.95 on the website and it is gorgeous in person!  I've been watching for a dress of this style with the longer hemline and more of a crocheted lace and so far, everyone I've found has been really expensive.  This dress is stunning for the price, I'm really delighted with it.

These picture were crazy fun to take, the light was fading quickly so this is a natural representation of the light receding back.  I was thrilled with the mist and how nicely it showed up but I do still have a long way to go with shooting in low light conditions.

Last Chance: H&M's Fifty states of Fashion Contest

American Eagle Denim Jacket
Leather Vest (thrifted)
Silk Dress (thrifted)
Madden Girl Leopard Print Boots
Silver Chain, thrifted necklace

I really, really liked this outfit.  I think I need to add another "really" in there because that's how awesome this outfit was to wear.  I've had a leather vest on my list for a while along with a leather shell, but everyone I've come across has been too big or in rough shape.  This one had been pushed to the very back of the racks which is why I think it'd been passed by so many times.  The tag was the current sale color for Value Village so I got this for $2.49.  That's a pretty screaming good deal for a leather vest that's actually cut nicely and not just one giant box.

I think with the shorter hair it feels like I finally have a little more freedom in what I want to wear.  I use to cut my hair short for riding season because hairnets really suck to put on and are miserable under a helmet in any kind of heat and I always have really enjoyed having my hair this short.  It feels a little more "me" than when it's really long.   I was really bad about brushing my hair as a little girl and my mom finally got fed up and cut my hair all off.  After that, everyone though I was a little boy because I'd roll(actually roll in) puddles and ran around in the short hair.  I was definitely quite the tomboy and even though I do like dresses and girl-stuff, I really like the comfortable and strong feeling I get when I have my hair short.

It also takes up a lot less shampoo and doesn't shed like crazy.

I also want to remind everyone that tomorrow, the 21st of August is when H&M's Fifty States of Fashion contest ends.  If you're still interested in being one of five winners will win a $250 gift card to H&M and one of those winners will be picked to win $1000 gift card and a trip for two to New York during Fashion Week to a exclusive H&M event.   It's really easy to enter, just take a picture of your favorite H&M outfit, post it to Instagram with the hashtag #HMSHOPONLINEAK (or the abbreviation for your own state) and you're entered.  The contest does end tomorrow so hurry up.  Alaska's been doing a great showing in this contest, it would be fun to see one of us win it! (Because come on you guys, it's a trip outside during the dead of winter.  Even though New York gets cold, it's nothing on the delightful -40 to -60 below that likes to hang around during that time.)   Good luck everyone, I've been watching the entries and it's going to be really exciting!

If I Had Two Dozen Roses....

Vintage DVF Shirt (thrifted)
Joie Skirt (ebay)
Seychelles Heels
Salvatore Ferramago Handbag (thrifted)
Silver Cuff via Vendor at state fair

Really likes this outfit but hated the pictures.  It was another "I can't take a picture to save my life and I don't even have the inspiration to try cool picture so eh."   I can't even think of anything to say so how's that for boring?  Going for most interesting blogger of the year award and failing miserably.

Tomorrow I'm try a photo shoot on top of a fast moving train with a mongoose riding a tiger chasing me.  It might be a challenge with the tripod but you don't know until you try.

Walk Away

American Eagle Outfitters Hat
Free People Sweater (thrifted)
J.Brand Jeans (thrifted)
DV by Dolce Vita Boots
Coach Handbag (thrifted)
Silver Cuff via Vendor from the State Fair

This sweater is a little funky for me, I don't usually wear asymmetrical garments but I'm trying to try thing out of my comfort zone.  I think next time I've wear the sweater with a higher rise of jeans though, these felt just a little too low cut for a sweater that liked to ride up.

It's starting to get colder in the morning and at night, we got a frost at our place this morning so I'm pretty sure we won't be getting any tomatoes out of our plants this year.  It was such a slow start to the year with the late break up and even with the really warm summer, our plants have been slow in coming in. (Aside from the herbs, those were growing like weeds this year.)  My parents garden looks pretty freaking amazing though, so it might be just me and my green thumb.

I have a few scheduled posts still set up from before I cut my hair so yeah, it didn't all grow back that fast.  Still short, just slow on posting.

Locks of Love: A Dedication to Erica and Yetta

Gap Cardigan
Shirt c/o H&M
Old Navy Shorts
Coach Shoes (thrifted)
Salvatore Ferramago Handbag (thrifted)
Vintage Silver Cuff (thrifted)

Every few years I cut all of my hair off.  This past year I've been growing it out so I could donate it to Locks of Love in honor of both my cousin and my best friend who both lost their battles with cancer.   I miss them both a great deal and while it's kind of a silly little token, I hope it might bring a little bit of happiness to someone else in their battle.
