Man, I love it when it warms up forty degrees, even if the current temp is about 10 above zero, it feels warm enough to roll around in the snow after the quite bit of -40 below. I forgo-ed the snow rolling and just enjoyed the nice light and the trail that snow-machiners had been nice enough to pack down. I'm mostly just baking and cleaning the house today, we're having dinner with my family tomorrow and I usually try to help out and bring a bunch of food. There's all of my brothers and then they pretty much always bring friends with them so we end up with seven or eight hungry young men and then the rest of us at dinner. Yeeeah, we go through a lot of food. I'm making green bean casserole, baked yams, a cherry pie, bread, rolls and I know there's something else I'm forgetting. I'll probably remember it right before it's time to go.

J.D.Hook Silk Scarf (thrifted)
Mia2 Leather Heels (thrifted
Fossil Leather Bag (thrifted)
It feels like the blue tint is rather prevalent in the pictures as of late, it's that time of year where the sun just barely rises above the horizon and while there's light, we're not getting very much direct sunlight. I took these pictures at 1:00 pm and as you can see, the sun's fallen pretty low in the sky.

Isabel Marant for H&M Scarf c/o H&M
Anne Klein Cashmere Sweater (thrifted)
Nine West American Vintage Pants
Man, it was dumping snow the day I took these pictures. I'm thrilled that we got so much snow right before the cold, the snow helps insulate the pipes and the septic system and keeps everything from freezing up. Last year we got maybe an inch of snow before going into crazy cold and everyone's pipes and spetics broke, I know there's was quite a few of us worrying about the same thing happening this year!
We built this little fort with the kids this past summer, it held up pretty well during the wind storm and we'd ended up only having to rebuild part of one wall. Most of the snow's blown off of it by now but it was pretty darn cute there for a little bit, seeing the kids and the dog playing in it.

Herman Kay Wool Coat (thrifted)
Jones Jeans Wool Blazer (thrifted)
Talbots Sweater (thrifted)
American Eagle Outfitters Jeans
Fossil Leather Bag (thrifted)
Fur Scarf (thrifted)
Everything looks so blue when the sun starts to fade, I think I need to start wearing some hot pink to throw in a little color contrast! This sweater is quickly becoming a staple in my wardrobe., I thrifted it brand new just a little while ago but wow, do I wear it a lot. Id been looking for the so called "perfect white winter sweater" that apparently doesn't really exist or so I thought until I found this one. It's soft, it fits through the shoulders but has just a little slouch to it and it's machine washable.
So there, proof that fashion nirvana awaits thee at the thrift store.

Faux Leather Coat (thrifted)
American Eagle Outfitters Tee
Silk Scarf (thrifted)
Vintage Leather skirt (thrifted)
Carlos Boots vai Famous Footwear
Coach Bag (thrifted)
It should be noted that I am horrible at throwing. (This snowball made it not even two feet.) It's not from a lack of practice, my family played a lot of backyard baseball growing up and I attempted to play for a softball team but since I couldn't get any more my pitches to actually make it to the batter(even when they moved me half way up between the mound and home) it was suggested that maybe I not come back. Since then I've worked and worked on it but nope, doomed to a life of poor distance and aim. At least I make up for it by being sneaky in snowball fights.
I bought my Rag and Bone Harrow boots back in October and almost right after buying them, I found two almost perfect ripoffs. I'd been wanting the Harrow boots for close to a year by that point and had looked at sort of look a likes, but hadn't found anything quite right. Now there's two really good dupes on the market right now at far lower prices.
here and they retail for a whopping $495. I bought my pair on ebay for far less but I'd been watching for a while and was able to get a pair of very gently used ones. They're made of leather and look lovely in person, they have personality but are toned down enough for everyday wear.
I haven't seen them in real life so I can't speak to fit of comfort but looks wise they're a perfect match. Had I seen these first, I probably would have tried them out before saving up for the Rag and Bone Harrow ones but right now I'm pretty happy with the pair I have.
here at Famous Footwear. These boots not as close of a match looks wise, they have a buckle rather than the slip closure but it's small potatoes. They are made of man made materials however but comfort wise, these boots are amazing. The heel is a comfortable height and they have the front slit that's so flattering on the leg and part of what makes the Harrow boots so popular. They retail normally for $79.99 but are on sale right now for $49.99. (I recommend not paying full price, Famous Footwear has sales all of the time.)
I bought the Carlos version because I'd been looking for a plain-ish pair of black ankle boots, I love my Seychelles pair but I hate wearing them in the wet snow so these were an alternate that I won't feel as bad about wreaking. I also had a coupon and a rewards card so I got mine for pretty cheap, I usually don't like to pay that much for non leather shoes, man made materials are not always that durable.
Note: Non of the links are affiliates, I don't get money if you click through. I just thought it would be polite to reference back to where I found them.

Zara Silk Dress (thrifted)
Worthington Faux Leather Top via JCP
After our summer of blazing heat I seem to have forgotten how much of a pain it is to take pictures in both the dark and extreme cold. It's difficult not to get graininess in -40 below zero and while these night pictures weren't taken in quite that cold(a mere -20 below) the cold does unpleasant things to picture quality. The weather took quite a dip in temps over the past few days, we reached down to -45 below zero at our house and wow, I am so happy at how the house did! I've talked a little bit about it through out the summer but when we bought our house, it ended up have to be pretty much completely redone. Walls, insulation, roof, wiring, flooring, it was bare bones and we had to do a ton of work. We didn't get the chance to redo some parts as much as we wanted and I've been really nervous about reaching the extreme cold temps but so far, the house has been a champ with retaining heat and keeping the cold out. The pipes didn't even freeze! It doesn't take much for you to realize what an extreme luxury shelter, heat and water are and everything else is just wants. (Aside from food of course, a full pantry is an amazing sight.) I was looking at some house decorating ideas on Pintrest and while I thought the ideas were fun, I felt no sense of jealousy over how nice some of those houses were. I mean, my house isn't the prettiest and we have a long ways to go but it's ours. Up until we bought out place, home ownership was years and years away and renting in town had gotten pretty stressful. Our landlords were nice people but they had the worst judgement in choosing renters and it was night after night of calling the cops, listening to someone being beaten or worrying about the crazy guy upstairs losing it and shooting his gun. (Right after we left, this happened and the people who moved into our place actually got hurt. A stray bullet hit one women's leg and while no one got really hurt, it was very scary to be there with little children.) A lot of bad things happened in that place and I tried to not dwell on them at the time but right now I can't even express how happy and thankful I am to not be there anymore. So this Thanksgiving I'm thankful for finally having a safe place to live that's warm, food to eat and firewood in the shed.
Oh, and running water. I not only love warm baths, I HEART them.

rag & bone Jodhpurs (ebay)
Naturalizer Boots (thrifted)
Eh, lost the light. the sun is setting about 3:30 now but it starts getting dark about three. We still have another month until Solstice where the sun starts setting later and we get some of our daylight back. Other than that, not much to say about this outfit, it's simple and practical. (Heh, I typed piratical the first time around. That would be an awesome outfit.) I'm mostly just shoveling snow and chopping firewood, it's the chore that never ends.
