Way Back Then

Old Navy Denim Vest and Boots
American Eagle Outfitters Palm Print blouse
J.Brand Jeans (gift)
Leather Clutch (thrifted)
Icing rings and Earrings

Since I won't be taking any new pictures this week and I'm doing scheduled posts, I thought I'd catch up on the backlog of outfits.  This outfit was from the end of May, when everything was still pretty brown and I wasn't shooting with the f1.8 lens. (I took the broken one in and because it was my fault, it wast covered under the warranty.  Ev was sweet and got me a new f1.8 for mother's day and while the lens does not make a photographer, the f1.8 takes such pretty pictures!)

This outfit is okay, there's the whole double denim thing going on but hey, the 90s are coming back around again, right?  I heard some kid call Hootie and the Blowfish "retro" the other day.... That just about dropped me, I'm NOT old enough for them to be retro!   I do remember trying to match my denim jacket perfectly with my jeans back then thought so at least I've made some progress since then.  (I also thought my overalls with Winnie the Pooh were the best thing ever so it's not like I had far to go to make an improvement.)

Redo: Who wears short shorts?

American Eagle Outfitters Hat and Lace Tank
Fred Meyer Black Top (Pretty sure these things use to be called tube tops, but now they're "fancy")
Theory Shorts (thrifted)
Silk Scarf (thrifted)
Craft Fair Bag (Christmas gift from one of my brothers)
Seychelles Boots
Rings- A mix of vintage silver and costume from Icings
Bracelets - Mix of Vintage Silver and coral, AE and thrifted
Necklace - Long AE pendent, short pendent is vintage silver and turquoise

I have a few scheduled posts set up for this week, so hopefully these will work!  (You know, me and this new fangled technology.  Seriously, you would laugh to see me struggling with the phone now.  It's like, where do I make a call from?)  Anyways, I'm crossing my fingers that this will work.  I'll be checking in every now and then from my parents' internet until we get our own set up at the new house.

Another outfit redo, I wore these shorts last summer with a loose white blouse but dude, that outfit makes me cringe.  Shorts were too tight and for the love of deep fried cheesecake, why did I think pairing high, high wedges was a great idea?  It's like a one way ticket to hookerville in that outfit. (Alright, it's not the worst thing ever, I really need one of those 90s tube tops and some see through platform heels for that look to carry through.)

Ugh, okay maybe in theory but in practice, it's just a no.  The shorts are a little looser now which saved them from the current closet purge but I went again with a loose white top but flat boots to balance out all of the leg.  It makes me laugh sometimes looking back through my previous posts, it really makes me shake my head over some of the things I wore. At least it's been fun trying to redo some of the outfits and seeing if I can figure out how to make it work now.

Huh, I just I should just admit to my apparent scarf obsession now.  It's almost as bad as the hat obsession.

Eaten Alive

Scarf (gift)
Pacsun Lace Dress
Double-Wrap Leather Belt (thrifted)
MichaelMichael Kors Leather Sandels (thrifted)
Dooney and Burke Handbag (thrifted)

This has been such a year for the misquitos!  They are out with a vengance this year and not only do the bits hurt, but they actually leave huge welts.  Every place in town had run out of bug dope, whole years supplies gone in just a month, so it's really bits right now. (Heh, bad puns...)

Anyways, all of the bug complaining is to excuse my poor photos.  I didn't pack any bug dope and I got eaten alive so the pictures were very, very hurried.  Um, I was wearing a dress and I like my sandals.   I think that's about all I have in me for today, the past few days have been insanely hot and its only suppose to get worse.  This would be bad normally but we're dry-walling and taping tomorrow so yeah.....that's going to be fun.

Forgive me everyone, I'm really hurried at the moment.  I'm just getting on the net before bed and we're moving out at the end of the week and I don't know how long it will take to get internet service at the new house.  Our providers up here are pretty lazy about getting around to places out of town(read:it took my parents FIVE years to get internet at their house and they're on a fairly well developed road.) so I might be offline for a while.  Thank you to everyone who's been putting up with my inattention and infrequent blogging and visits, you all are way to sweet and it just means the world to me to log on and visit.  Thanks guys, you rock.

Out for a Ride

Great Northwest Hat and Scarf
Banana Republic Crochet Top (thrifted)
American Eagle Outfitters Leather Belt
Old Navy Shorts
Keds Polka Dot Shoes
Dooney and Burke Handbag (thrifted)
Watch (Gift)
F21 Studded Bracelet, AE Cuff

It's a practical outfit today, dad and I worked on hooking up Merrylegs to the little pony buggy and driving him.  He was a pretty good pony about the whole thing and he looked terribly cute pulling the little cart around.  Afterwards I hopped up on Dollar and took him for a quick trail ride, it's always fun to just relax and just ride him with a halter and rope rather than tacking him up with a saddle and bridle.   He's got just the nicest, smoothest walk and canter so he's really a pleasure to ride bareback.

I know, he's got just the cutest face, those ears are so big and adorable.  Ev took these pictures while I was walking around the paddock, it's really fun getting to ride bareback in the summer.

The Land of the Midnight Sun

Elizabeth and James Silk Dress (ebay)
B. Makowsky Handbag (thrifted)
Steve Madden Leather Wedges (super sale at Famous Footwear last winter.)
Icing Earrings and Ring
American Eagle Outfitter Gold and black Cuff, F21 Spiked Bracelet

This outfit is from last week, it's a very simple outfit but wow, did I love wearing this dress.  There's one Paul and Joe Sister dress from the 2011 line that I loved but I've never been able to find and I was thrilled to find this dress that looks so alike.   I styled it very simply this time around but I think it would be adorable with a leather jacket. (Well, any jacket really and I'm actually look forward to wear it with some sweaters this winter.  I can't believe I just said I was looking forward to wearing something in the winter...)

The Summer Solstice was the 21st and there's always a big celebration that goes on in town.  We have a baseball game that starts at 10:30 pm and plays out entirely in natural sun light, sometimes going until 2 in the morning without a hint of darkness.  Alaska is known for having long summer nights but it's even more exaggerated the farther north you travel and in Fairbanks, it seems like the sun almost never sets during the summer and if it does, it's more of a dusk/twilight than darkness.  Pretty sweet and helps make up for the 2 hours of light during the depths of winter.

Do Over

Scarf (thrifted)
Jessica Simpson Jacket (thrifted)
Old Navy Tee Shirt
Levis (gift from my grandma)
Seychelles Heels
Dooney and Burke Handbag (thrifted)
Icing Rings

I wear skinny jeans far more often than I wear bootcut jeans because trying to wrap your jeans so that your chaps will zip up in not fun.  (Jeggings are usually pretty comfy to ride in as well, they move well and usually don't have seams that will rub on your legs.)  My grandmother who is also an advid thrifter, found these jeans, along with some awesome leather jackets, at her local thrift store in Colorado.  She brought a whole box of clothes and horse related items up with her this summer and she was sweet enough to give these jeans to me.  The jeans are in really good shape, I don't think they've even been worn.   (And thank you so much grandma!)

This out is a redo of this outfit I wore last year.  I've always been a jeans and tee shirt kind of girl but with trying to move my style out of the "teenager" zone and more into an adult look, I sort of lost my way as how to wear such a simple outfit.

Not a huge amount of changes but wow, do they make a difference. Darker wash jeans look more saturated and balanced with the utility style jacket and I swaped the fussy blouse out for a simple gray tee shirt.  (You can never go wrong with a gray tee shirt, they're even better than that holy grail of all tees, the perfect white tee.)  Rather than a hat, I went with a patterned scarf and some simple boots to complete the look.  And look at that, I apparently dyed my hair to match my scarf.  It's a good thing I don't have a purple scarf, I'm not sure I could pull off lavender hued hair.

I should mention that Ev took the photos, he was really sweet and listened to me.  I had a very particular mental image of what I wanted and he did a great job of capturing that on camera.  Thanks hon and I'm sorry for being so bossy.
