The Zebra scarf strikes again

Jacket: Gap (Thrifted)
Scarf: Icing
Denim Shirt: Old Navy
Shirt: Pacsun
Dress: Old Navy
Boots: DV by Dolce Vita

I really was not on top of the photos today, I spent 30 minutes trying to get my poor, one legged tripod to stand straight on the ice and not dump my camera to the ground. (Only a small heart attack over that, I did make some pretty spectacular dives and catches as the tripod would lurch over.)  I keep meaning to buy a new tripod, but the only ones in town I can find are the $70 plus ones at the sporting goods stores.  Not even the second hand stores have any tripods right now and I refuse to pay that much for a tripod, so it's just old one-legged and me.

Tripod woes aside, I really can't complain.  We've been having unseasonably warm weather lately, I don't remember ever seeing temperatures above zero at this time of year.  I'll take it though, last year Fairbanks was setting records that'd stood for seventy years for the coldest spike at this time of year, -47 below was the worst. (Normally we're about -20 below-ish in November.)  It just continued all winter, setting records left and right.  I'm really hoping it doesn't do that again this year, its nice having a break from the colder weather.

Wow, I really do just talk about the weather here!  I'm like the most uninteresting person ever, the person you scoot away from on the bus because they just have to tell you all of the minuet details of their day.  I don't even have a cute and fluffy cat to regale you all with tales of his devious antics.  Well, I do have cute little kids, but I start feeling a little too Kate Gosselin if I talk about them non stop on the blog.

Ooooh, that might have been a bit harsh.  I guess we'll know in 10 years if that worked out for them.

  1. I really have no idea who she is (she isn't known in the UK, so please forgive me), but I did enjoy your story and the outfit. xxx

  3. Oh my gosh..have you ever read her book? I think it's pretty terrible. I couldn't get through it!!

Love a chambray top with a maxi skirt...and somehow you don't even look like you were diving through the snow to catch your tripod!

    1. I'll read just about anything but I had to put her book down. Ugh, she just makes me all kinds of ragey. :P And thank you, I always love a good denim shirt, I'd wear them 24/7 if I thought I could get away with it!

    1. Yeah, that got pretty sad towards the end, those poor kids. TLC has kind of gone down the drain with their programming, they use to have to pretty good stuff, but now, yikes.

  7. LOL. Kate Gosselin has always given me the heebie jeebies even more than the nutso 19 Kids and Counting people. Love the maxi skirt. I hope you're wearing some very warm thermal underwear under there!

    1. Dude, tell me about it. I think the Duggers at least have good intentions, with Kate, it's all about how much money she can squeezed out of the kids.
The best thing about maxis is you can wear all kinds of crazy layers under them and no one ever has to know. It's awesome. :)

    1. No way, you always have the best, sweetest stories about your family. I love blogs like yours that are so family orientated, it's really relate-able and completely sweet. (I always end up laughing, some of your stories just crack me up.)
I think I just feel awkward talking about the kids on mine, there's so many weridos out there that I feel nervous putting too much about them out there. I got one weird hit on the blog over a kid related post and while it might have been innocent, I've tried to scale way back on mentioning or posting the kids' pictures.

  9. Haha don't worry, you're nowhere near Kate Goselin's crazy! I really don't mind you talking about the weather. I find it fascinating how very cold it gets in Alaska. I can't even begin to imagine what 20 below feels like, let alone 47 below! I should never complain about the cold again!

Your zebra scarf is adorable and the burgundy maxi is so pretty!

    1. Whew, that's a bullet dodged! :)
I'm going to try not to play local weatherman too much, it starts sounding repetitive on the blog after a while, but that is so sweet of you to say that!

  10. Katie, I love this outfit. You have a great eye for color mixing. You pair unlikely colors together and they work perfectly. I'm a little jealous of that gorgeous lace top.

    Thanks for the humor!

  11. The lace top over the dress is such a great touch! And the belt makes it look like peplum. Is it?

And how in the world do you get your tripod to stand up in the first place if it only has one leg??

    1. Heh, it's a miracle of physics that keeps that silly tripod up, that and a lot of duct tape at the moment. :)

  13. I am so impressed that you remain incredibly fashion forward with such freezing weather conditions...loved your beautifully layered outfit. I would probably go out in a blanket if it were -20 degrees and forget what style even is, haha.

    1. I get so lazy about pictures when it get cold, I have to pump myself up to take pictures or I just sit in the house. "Maybe now I'll go take picture. No, still too cold. Maybe now. No, too cold. Well, the light's fading so it's too late now." It's sad.

    2. Yes, a blanket sounds good at -20 degrees for sure! But the beautiful trees and snow in your backgrounds make for such gorgeous pictures!
