Only seven months until summer

Hat and gloves: Fred Meyers
Vest: Jack by BB Dakota (thrifted)
Long Cardigan: Gap
Skirt: Sears
Tights: Fred Meyer
Boots: Madden Girl

I was having so much trouble trying to take photos today, I just couldn't get the light to work for me.  Then I got home and realized my light setting was still on Florescent from last night's trick or treating.   Yeah, I will not be receiving a 2013 MacArthur Genius grant.  (It's not like anyone was holding their breath over that one.)

I'm trying to think of new ways to wear my faux fur vest and while this isn't exactly the most creative idea ever, I realized I've never worn it over a long cardigan, only coats.  I actually really like it with the gray, it's not as stark as when I layer it over a leather jacket.

Alrighty, I've been up straight for the past two nights with sick kids, so I think I'm hitting the hay now before I ramble on incoherently.

Whoops, already did that.

  1. This is cute. Love the hat.
I know I've said this before, but I love the way you take neutrals or nature colors and pair them with a piece that has color.

  5. Love that summery skirt layered up with your wintery clothes and accessories. I'm with you on the countdown to summer, or at least spring. It's getting cold in Boston!

    1. Ick, it looks like it's getting really cold over that way, I bet everyone is wishing for a little warmth right now.

  6. The skirt, is like candy corn on crack... in other words, I love it! I really do hope that for Christmas you just send me a huge box of clothes, the skirt included. I'm glad to be back (thanks for missing me :) ), I just wish I could get a grasp on my crazy schedule, it can be daunting. As for your kiddies, I hope that they get better soon, I hate it when my family gets sick, you rest up too!

    1. I was so happy to see you back, I was pretty sure that you had quite a bit on your plate but it's wonderful to see you again! ^_^ And thanks, I think we're getting to the home stretch of this flu now.

  7. I'm the same way about forgetting to change the camera settings. I need a sticker reminder on my camera or something.

I love that you pass out oodles of candy to the trick-or-treaters. I'm the same way. The kids eyes just get so big. Love it!

    1. I know, there's nothing better than getting a huge handful of candy! (Or giving it!) I felt so bad of the kids this year, they'd been around the block already and only had a few pieces in their bags, with it being so cold out, I though they deserved huge handfuls. Aside from taking my little guys out trick or treating, handing out candy is my favorite part of Halloween. :)

  8. The lighting, though, really makes the photos look cold which just emphasizes that, well, it IS cold! Does that make sense?

Also, I was just thinking that I want a faux fur vest and then you go and wear yours and now I want one even more.

    1. Oh, I would love to see how you would style a furry vest! I think that would be a great Wednesday post, how to style a fur vest.

    1. Oh thank you so much, that's really sweet. The faux furry vests are actually really warm and add a great little layer if you're like me and mostly just get cold in the torso. (It helps that they're fun as well!)

  12. Great layering and use of textures Katie. I like that the gloves and hat are just as much part of the outfit as every other piece. And I agree with how nice that cardigan looks paired with the vest. Have you ever tried it over a dress with a belt? I've seen that look on a couple of other blogs. BTW, gave you a little shout-out on asecondglance today :)

    1. You are just way too sweet Kat! That really just made my day, I've had this huge smile on my face over how sweet you are!

I've never tried this cardigan with a belt, I always feel worried that it's going to look too bulky, (which is silly if it's belted!) but now I'll have to give it a try! do you think a think or a thin belt would work better?

  13. Going by your title I'm going to guess you're not a huge fan of winter! I'm always forgetting to change back the settings on my camera which wrecks a lot of pics. I like your vest, it does look really good with the grey.
