A Wizard named Harry Returns.

Faux Leather Jacket: No label (thrifted)
Sweater: J.Crew Cashmere (thrifted)
Dress: Old Navy (last year)
Booties: Old Navy (also last year)
Handbag: Liz Claiborne (thrifted)
Necklace: ? (thrifted)

The light was fading fast so I ended up asking Evan to take a few photos since the one-legged tripod and I are currently not talking to each other.  However, I might have had been better off negotiating a peace treaty with Mr. Tripod, poor Evan was quite frustrated by the end!  I'm sort of (really) bossy, especially when it comes to photos and he just wanted to snap pictures of me looking three feet tall.  At least I bribed him with pie.

I really liked how this outfit came together, nothing like big flower to say  "take that winter!"  I'm going to rock the gigantic florals even when there's nary a flower in sight.   The best part about maxis in the winter time is you can wear what ever you want under them for added warmth, I usually go with jeans or thick leggings.

And in nerd news that all nerds already know,  Jim Butcher FINALLY released the new Dresden book.  Yeah, it doesn't take much to make me a happy girl.  I never really got into the whole Harry Potter books, I liked the first three when the came out since they were fun adventure books, but the last four just didn't do anything for me. (Maybe because the transition in the tone of the books wasn't organic?  Or maybe Harry Potter just really annoyed me...That does explains why Potter fans always give me nasty looks.)  But dude, the Dresden Files are awesome.  My brother tried to get me to read the books for years and since his taste in books is questionable  I just kept putting him off. Obviously this was a poor choice on my part.   It's definitely the one book series that I fangirl out over, it's insanely good!  So there, now you all know my nerdy secret.

  2. Phahha, I'm super bossy too, because it takes my bf hours to focus the god damn camera :-D

  3. Hahahaha! xD I remember when I started rounding my mom up to take outfit photos for me. I swear, she got so annoyed with me because I'd start getting so bossy cause I know exactly how I want outfit photos. Since then, she's gotten so much better though...aha, she now understands what I mean when I ask for "detail shots" lol
Anyway, love this floral maxi and brown leather jacket you put together! Way to stick it to winter ;)
Also, thanks so much for your lovely comments. I love reading them and knowing someone actually reads my posts. Aha, I'm usually cheerful, but overly chipper people can certainly get annoying.

  9. Haha I'm bossy too when it comes to my photos but my hubby is so used to taking them now that he knows which shots I want. That floral maxi is so pretty! That is a good idea to wear jeans underneath for added warmth.

  10. Sometimes I feel like I missed out on an entire segment of pop culture by having zero interest in Harry Potter (never seen the movies or read the books). I guess I just have zero interest in tween wizards...

  11. Ha-ha I have never even heard of that series. I should read more/want too. When I get into a book I like read half of it... life becomes busy then I forget about it. I need to stop that. I never liked Harry Potter though but I think that's because when I was a child I was forced to take this special class with just be one on one with this teacher I hated for some reason (cant remember now) and she forced me to read Harry Potter out loud. I hated hated hated that... but I should give it a try.

Oh. This outfit is awesome!!!! :) My friend has the same maxi dress so I just sent her an image. :)

  12. What a cute outfit! I love the floral dress and the jacket looks great with it! It looks really cold there. It was 35 degrees when I left for work this morning, but I can't even imagine what it was where you are. I don't think I want to know. :)

  13. This is such a great idea for winterizing a maxi skirt! The floral print is beautiful and I'm glad you're getting multiple seasons out of it! It's adorable with the leather jacket too!

Sorry to hear about the tripod issue... It's always annoying to recruit people for outfit photos. My poor roommate, parents, and best friend always get bugged to do it. But they love us and our style blogger habits despite it all. Hope you enjoy the rest of your week, lady!

  16. Oh! A new Dresden Files book? Must tell my husband! We're both fans but he's a much bigger fan than I am. He was so sad when James Marsters stopped doing the audio books, though.

Also, I never thought about wearing jeans under my maxis on cold days. Great idea!

  17. This look is sooo pretty, love how brought vibrance and floral flair to the cold bland weather. You look lovely! Hope you and the Tripod make up soon. Haven't read the books before but thanks for the recommendation, not a Harry Potter fan either.

  20. I haven't thought about the combination of a maxi dress/skirt and winter/snow (and I don't have any maxi skirts) but I have to admit I quite like what I see here. great job with the layering too!

  24. Oh this outfit is the bomb! Love the long lines the floral maxi skirt provides, you look SUPER tall, something I should work on, lol. I've never read anything by Jim Butcher, but now that you've mentioned it I'll probably on the hunt once the semester ends. Set winter straight Katie through the power of floral and skirts :)
