Spats or Half-chaps?

Sweater: Thrifted
Dress: Anthropologie (thrifted for a quarter yo.)
Boots: Fergalicous by Fergie
Coat: Ellen Tracy (gift from my mom)
Leather Handbag: Thrifted

I got these boots last year, both Fred Meyer/Kroger and Famous Footwear carry these boots, but at Fred Meyer they are both $10 cheap and almost always on sale.  It looks like this year both stores brought back the same style, I compared the ones I own against the ones in the store and they're pretty much the same.  Anyways, the reason I'm talking about these boots is because they're large through the calf.  I've done some research and I've discovered most boots run between 12inch and 15 inch circumference, or how wide the boot is.  My calves measure 16 inches in circumference and  I always have such a hard time finding boots.  No one in town carries wide-calf boots and I rarely shop on the internet, so finding a great part of boots is a big deal. (In fact, before these boots I'd been wearing the same ones from years ago.)  I measured out these boots and they run about 17 inches around, which is awesome!  I get to wear thick tights and pants with them and not look like a over zealously stuffed sausage.

I also love these boots because they make me think of Spats, or half-chaps and since I adore just about anything horse-gear inspired, these boots are a great fit for me.  After all, I am not Equestrian-sponsored-by-Prada-to-go-to-the-Olympics chic, I am barn-slave-muck-out-the-stalls-to-ride chic.

Oh yeah, it's that Anthro dress for a quarter again.  I mentioned before that I like everything about it except for it being a baby-doll style.  However, that just means I wear a top over it and problem fixed.

  1. I have a similar St. Patrick's day green trench from Old Navy that I got last season on clearance. I also can't wait to get a new pair of boots this season!

    1. I saw that trench at old Navy and was so tempted but they sold out of them way before clearance time. You'll have to let me know if you find a great brand of boots!

  2. Boots are the worst! I also have 16" calves. Have you tried any Steve Madden or Madden girl boots? I've found that they run a little wider than most brands. Payless also has some cute wide-calf styles this year!

    1. Ohh, I haven't been into payless lately, but I saw one of their ads and the boots were really cute. Madden girl or the Steve Madden boots are the only reliably larger calf boots, I think almost every pair I've gotten over the years has been from them! (Good call on suggesting them! ^_^)

  5. I would never have guessed that was a dress and not a skirt! It looks perfect as a skirt. And those boots are pretty killer. Love the detail with the spats or half-chaps or whatever you want to call them :-) I actually have pretty big calves, too. Mine are approximately 15" around so boots tend to be pretty tight on me, too. I hate when I wear them over jeans and then take them off and the jeans have left a huge indentation in my legs!

  6. I have the same problem with finding boots that will be nice to my calves, your pair looks so cute! I'm still hunting for mine, I swear I'll find the perfect pair on of these days. I really like the way you layered the green trench over the almost-too-good-to-be-true Anthro dress, it creates such a flattering silhouette.
