Dress: Old Navy
Belt: Clarie's
Tights: GW
Shoes: Vince Camuto

Wow, our light really started to fade fast.

This is a dress I love to wear.  It's fitted with a great skirt and... it has pockets.  I have such a love affair with pockets.  Anyways, getting back to it, you've most likely noticed a lot of my clothes come from the same place.  Up here, we have very few stores.  We have Sears, Old Navy, Famous Footwear, Pacson, AE, Torrid, Two thrift stores(Value Village and Salvation Army) and then a few consigment stores and outdoor-wear stores. (Walmart doesn't really count.)  And that is it.

It can be slim pickings, as everyone shops at the same places, so it's not uncommon to go somewhere and see someone else wearing the same thing. (I'm surpised we haven't broken the space/time continum thingy-ma-jig.)

I'm not to sort of person to throw a fuss over stuff like this, but I do like to look a little different.  This means doing something that no one expects and up here in Fairbanks, Alaska, that means leopard print booties.

I *HEART* Leopard print booties.

I got some good stares with these today.

But wearing a dress up here on a day other than Sunday tends to get stares too.

"Are you going to a party?"

"Then why are you looking so fancy?"

"I want to look special when we break the space/time continum thingy-ma-jig."

Going for my laser gun.  You never know.

A Resolution

Coat: Fleet St.
Jacket: Sears
Skirt: Apt 9
Jeans: Old Navy
Boots: Madden Girl

Just in case everyone thinks I'm nuts, I'm showing that yes, I do wear a real coat in the cold.(snow pants too.)  They just make for silly pictures.  And there's enouph of that going on with me making faces during picture taking!

Looking back, I realize I talk about the weather alot.  I'm sorry, people come here looking for style(Sorry again!) and instead they get the local weather channel.  It's a bit of an alaskan obession, this weather thing.  It's just about all we talk about, aside from how much it cost to fill up the car. (And who isn't obessed with that?)

So, from now on, I will try not to talk about the weather.  Or zombies.  It's not a zombie blog, as fun as that would be.  It's suppose to be a style blog and that's what it will be!  I'll try to start doing some stylish things, but I may talk about a zombie every now and again.  It is called An Alaskan Weredork.

Speaking of blog titles, I better start sucking my gut in or this is going to be called An Alaskan Porkchop.  Mmmmm, pork.

I'm sorry, I said no weather, but it's warm now.  Yay for -24 below!  Heat wave!

Ice Fog

Shirt: Old Navy
Skirt: Bought at Fred Meyer(Kroger)
Tights: GW (Fred Meyer)
Shoes: Kensie Girl
Jewelry: Assorted

So.  I think I get the badass award today.
It is -49 below.

The ice fog was really fun to shoot in and I have to say, these tights rock.  The brand is GW and your local Fred Meyer/Kroger store should have them.  They kept me warm and didn't rip right away and are fairly reasonable in  price.  (But it's not like I was just standing around for hours, just running in and out.)

It has warmed up, it was -58 last night.
The late night anchors on the weather channel were fastinated by us last night.
"It's cold over in Fargo, but did you see Fairbanks?!  -52 below!"
"People live up there."
"-52 below!  And tomarrow, it's suppose to warm up to -29 below.  That's warming up!"

We're barbarians.

It's cold and I looked like a cast member of the walking dead

Sweater: Sears
Skirt: Old Navy
Jeans: Old Navy
Shoes: SM New York

Not my best outfit, but at least today I made it out of my pjs.  (And looking less like a cast member of The Walking Dead than I did yesterday.)
I even dragged my butt up the stairs .....and came to a dead stop at the door.

Yeah, the cold is back.  It's -46 below.
Well, at least I gave it the good ol' college try.

I'm sorry, I'll try to be cute tomarrow.

Because we have a lot of those in Alaska

You found me out.
I'm a vampire.
Because in Alaska, we have a lot of vampires.
Not many zombies.
I know, I'm bummed too.

If you know your zombie and vampire movie lore, you know what I'm talking about.

Shirt: Old navy
Sweater: Oldnavy
Skirt: Sears
Shoes: Black Poppy
Coat: Old Navy

So, my pale-ness aside, pattern mixing is fun.  Its cuter without the sweater, but I'm too much of a wimp to go sleeve-less in the winter.
Speaking of zombies(We were, weren't we?) not that long until Season Two of The Walking Dead returns to TV.
Because zombies beat vampires any day of the week.

You already saw my akward picture, so here's the weather!
It's a charming -17 below.

Fake Anthro

Shirt: Old Navy
Dress: Angie
Belt: Claires
Shoes: Black Poppy
Bag: ? (gift)

Ah, no moose to run from today, nor a car to dodge.  So I'll just go talk to this pole.....

This dress was another good thrift find, doesn't it look like an Anthro dress?  I'll take a rip-off any day and at a $5.99 price tag, why not?   (I know, Anthropolgie fans will burn me at the stake for that, but first, they'll have to brave the cold!  Muuwwaahhaa!)

Akward pic of the day:

Oh yeah, I'm about hit the pole up with a "How you doin'? and offers of some R&R. (rich and rare, it's a cheap whiskey that is usually the drink of choice up here in the north and yes, the joke's no good when I explain it.)

We're in  the middle of a heat wave up here, still -5 below and loving it!  This time of year, we're normally hitting -40 to --55 below, so this is great!  (Only Fairbanks people get happy about -5 below, the freaks that we are.)

Thank you everyone for the comments, you all are so sweet and I really enjoy reading them!  (I'll try not to scare you away, I really will.)

Dark already?

Dress: ? (Thrifted, no tags)
Jacket: Jack
Shoes: Unlisted

I'm getting better about having my picture taken.  Sort of.  Next week it's action photos, maybe of me dashing away from the moose who eats our neighbors trees.  (Who will win that match?  I wonder....)

(Or bouncing off a car hood since I like to stand in the street.)
And here's the akward picture of the day!

What am I doing?  Who knows, maybe I just like flashing cars as they go by and stare at the strange girl taking pictures out in the snow and wind.

It's only 2:30 and it's already getting dark. Talk about a heat wave, it's staying steady at -5 below.  Of course, it has to blow like crazy and snow, we still have a good two and a half months of winter to go.

Red and Tropical

Vest: Old Navy
Sweater: Old Navy
Pants: The Limited
Shoes: Naughty Monkey
Bracelets: Assorted

Ah, the famous blogger vest.  No one has ever seen this before.  (It really is worth the hype, I wear this all the time, and it works with almost anything.)

I *heart* red pants.  I really do, I have more red pants than black ones.  Back in 2006 when colored jeans had a brief moment, I would'nt touch them with a ten-foot pole.  But, then came the spring of 2011 and the red pants began their siren call, luring everyone to their bright hue.  I was no exeption and am now competely smitten.  As we work our way into 2012 red pants show no signs of fading away, I think they may become a true classic.  There are so many shades of red to choose from and many different cuts, anyone can find a pair suited to them.  Plus red pants go with ANYTHING.  Well, almost anything.

It is a tropical -5 below up here in lovely Fairbanks, and shaping up to be a lovely day, for all 4.5 hours of sunlight.
Yeah, I should have worn shorts.

So what do you think is a new classic from all of the trends of 2011?

So many trends

Shirt: Old Navy
Vest: UK Style by French Connection
Pants: American Eagle
Shoes: Vince Camuto

Let's see how many trends Katie can do at once.
Furry vest?  Check
Colored jeans?  Check
denim shirt? Check
Leopard print? Check
Leopard print booties?  Double check

I Love these shoes.  I saw these in the style magazines for a while, but never really thought about it until I saw Christine of My Style Pill wearing the black version.  They were so cute, and then Piperlime was having a huge sale, so these were my christmas present from my husband.   I realize now I totally ripped of Christine with these blue jeans and booties. (Sorry Christine!)  She's one of the greats in the fashion blogging world, she has such great style and I'm always inspired by her.

Oh, I am setting such a good example for my kid.

We've gone from -39 below this morning to -22 below this afternoon.  They say it might get up to -15 below Friday.  Here's hoping.

So who do you follow in the fashion blogging world and who gives you inspiration?

Premature Party Time

Coat: Old Navy
Scarf: ?
Shirt: Old Navy
Shoes: SM New York
Skirt: Christian Dior

Heh, my little man is doing his most suave pose.

This skirt is retail karma.  Back when American Eagel was having it's 40% sale, a lady grabbed the last pair of bright blue AND red jeans right out from under my grasping hands.  There almost was a smack down, but I walked calmly. (okay, I maybe stalked her to the counter)  The  next day at the thrift store I was looking through the racks when I saw this skirt, loved the pattern and on the off chance I glanced at the tag.
I'd like to say I nonchalantly walked to the check out counter, but I think I set a new record for the hundred yard dash.
I love this skirt, not only is it one of the nicest things I own, it has pockets.  Becuase if something has pockets, I'm sold.

Wooo, blurry photos.

My happiness was short lived, we are now back to -40 below again.  It doesn't feel as bad now that we're use to it.

So, do you belive in retail karma?  Or do you just plow your way through?
